10 Jul 2008A federal judge has ordered Google to turn over information about every user who has ever watched a video on YouTube. The ruling came as part of a lawsuit brought by Viacom over the posting of copyrighted material on YouTube. Google is resisting the request, saying it would allow Viacom to “likely be able to determine the viewing and video uploading habits of YouTube’s users.” The Electronic Frontier Foundation called the judgment “a set-back to privacy rights.”
Hmm and here I am uploading videos to YouTube like there’s no mañana. What are some good alternatives?

This film by Adriana got her a nine-day expenses paid stay here at the Sundance Film Festival. At the festival, a launching ground for many indie filmmakers, she’ll have the chance to meet with Fox Searchlight Pictures production executives.

17 Nov 2006As loyal readers may have noticed, we are becoming more and more addicted to YouTube. My number one fascination lately is reliving some old Rock en español videos by my favorite bands, and digging up some that I never even knew existed.
Yeah, makes one feel a little old to see how dated all of these are, but it brings back great memories of when little old me was pretending to be a Rock en español DJ back in Tejas (don’t laugh). I was terrible, but now with YouTube I can feel more like a VJ for all of you. Rock en tu idioma was a great movement, and there’s nothing like a few nostalic hits to kick the weekend off right. Here are three of my favorites to take you back a few years and get your weekend going, 80s style.
Please leave your video requests in the comments section and we’ll try our best to dig in the crates of YouTube to find your faves, and post them here next Friday.

The hottest video on YouTube right now is a clip called “Free Hugs Campaign“ in which a man who calls himself “Juan Mann” advertises via a posterboard that he’s giving out free hugs. Some people take him up on the offer, but eventually he’s asked to leave by the authorities. The video has been viewed nearly 6 million times and its message has gone around the world. Now, people in other countries are taking up Juan’s hugging initiative and are offering free hugs. Following are a few examples of “Abrazos Gratis” campaigns in Latin America (more after the jump):
