Lessons in Swine Flu: How NOT to Wear a Facemask

While most of the world media seems to be over its love affair with swine flu, in the world of viral video (no pun intended) it appears to still be thriving. Take this video from Colombia (where new cases of the flu are still appearing, including a death yesterday) that’s making its away around the Latin American web:

Not very effective.

This poor guy has since become a laughing stock. But to me what is really “interesting” is how after he puts the mask on, the journalist says “well, that’s one way”!

Morning Bizarro: Billy Bob Thornton Goes Off (or IS off)

The Twitter is buzzing this morning over a video of actor Billy Bob Thornton being interviewed about his musical career. Sounds pretty normal up until there, but the video is worth far more than any description I might be able to provide. Check it out (warning, this is extremely painful to watch):

My gut says this is a prank. Your thoughts? Is this just another Joaquin Phoenix-esque publicity stunt or is Billy Bob off his rocker?

Miércoles Música: Requiem (for a laugh)

Now that VL is past the attacks and back in action, we are super happy around here. So happy, that we want to share the joy and what better way to do so than with music? I thought this amazing piece of audiovisual work would put you in the dancing mood on this, the humpiest of days, Wednesday. Plug in your audífonos, turn your screen away from the boss’ view and get ready for Requiem.

Am I the only one who actually remembers this song and video?

Crowdsourcing — getting things done with the help of the general public — has been a buzz phrase for a while now. An interesting project called dotSUB lets you get videos and movies en tu idiomawhichever language that might be — and participate in helping translate the clips, too.

A good example of how this works is this clip of a Superman comic, which users have translated into many different languages, from Croatian to Swedish to Russian. Check out these two versions in the languages of Latin America, Portuguese and Spanish:

Pretty cool!

277391511_48ea8c0e7f_m.jpgThe hottest video on YouTube right now is a clip called Free Hugs Campaign in which a man who calls himself “Juan Mann” advertises via a posterboard that he’s giving out free hugs. Some people take him up on the offer, but eventually he’s asked to leave by the authorities. The video has been viewed nearly 6 million times and its message has gone around the world. Now, people in other countries are taking up Juan’s hugging initiative and are offering free hugs. Following are a few examples of “Abrazos Gratis” campaigns in Latin America (more after the jump):
