28 Jan 2008Mexican director Ernesto Contreras is celebrating a very nice win at the Sundance Film Festival. His movie, Párpados Azules, took home the special jury prize over the weekend. This is the 7th win for the film, which has triumphed at Guadalajara and San Sebastián, among other important festivals. El Universal reports that Contreras wasn’t able to pick up the award personally because he was in Mexico…shooting Cafe Tacvba’s new video!
Párpado azules, starring Cecilia Suárez (of TV Azteca novela fame) tells the story of a single woman who wins a trip for two to a romantic getaway, but has no one to share it with. Check out the trailer above.

GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) announced this week at Sundance its candidates for awards in excellence in fair and unbiased coverage of the LGBT community in Spanish language media. The awards cover all areas of media, including TV, film, traditional journalism and the internet. Some of the of the 45 nominees:

The fabulous children’s show on PBS, Plaza Sesamo (the Spanish-language version of Sesame Street) just announced its plans for a new season, and it looks pretty cool:
Plaza’s unique Muppet characters, appear in telenovela parodies to positively demonstrate emotions and help children understand them. Also, watch for special celebrity guest appearances from Jorge Campos, Edith Gonzalez, Sebastian Gonzalez “Chamagol,” Andrea Legarreta, Adal Ramones, and Marco Antonio Regil, as they share adventures with the residents of the Plaza and their viewers.
