For those who chose to watch the Democrats spar bilingually instead of the MTV Video Music Awards last night, Shakira and Beyonce won a moonman for the above collaboration. The exact name of the category is Most Earth Shattering Collaboration. My earth wasn’t shattered , but what do I know.

Shakira and her kinda-sorta pre-nups

0816g.jpgShakira ain’t a fool. As rumors swirl around her relationship with bf Antonio de la Rua being on the rocks, it has been revealed that when she entered into the relationship, she made sure Antonio wouldn’t be making off with her cash:

“The separation was denied, but it was discovered that a few years ago they agreed to sign papers to cover two possible scenarios: that they get married or stay in a unmarried relationship,” according to the Bogota magazine Semana.

The magazine says that both “contributed to the conjugal relationship — or the parental relationship — whichever the case will be, a symbolic sum of $20,000.”

With that, according to Semana, each one of keeps their own wealth “no matter what happen in the future”.

Somehow I feel like this was to protect Shaki, and not Antonio, who mean, gossipy people refer to as “el mantenido” (“the kept man”).

Shakira on the big screen?

6:30 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Celebrities|Chismes|Movies · Comments Off

epa_shakira_196351m.jpgCan’t get enough of Shakira’s shaking hips on videos? You might be getting a chance to the Colombian superstar for a lot longer than the standard three minutes. It seems that Shakira has decided to embark on a new endeavor completely outside of music, in a new movie by famed director Mike Nichols:

That’s according to press in Los Angeles, where the Daily News reports on Shakira’s desire to work with Mike Nichols in [the movie]“Hips Don’t Lie”.

In the same report, Shakira debunks rumors that her first experience in front of the camera will be under the orders of Meixcan director Alfonso Arau in his upcoming bio-pic of legendary Carlos Gardel “El día que me quieras” (“Dare to Love Me”), as had been announced previously.

According to Spain’s 20 Minutos, Shakira is in talks with Nichols now, and had planned to start working with him earlier but couldn’t, due to her heavy (120 concert) tour schedule.

Shaki previously said that she wouldn’t be doing any acting, and that she would be taking a sabbatical. What happened to that?

shakira_52606_300.jpgWe’ve been listening to rumors that Shakira is going to wed her long-time boyfriend, Antonio de la Rua for years now. We’re skeptical that this is actually going to happen, but are just gonna put it out there for you. Las malas lenguas say that Shaki is going to go through with it, and in the D.R.:

Dominican Republic is again under the international spotlight after a Latin Celebrities radio program reported yesterday that the singer Shakira and her fiancé Antonio de la Rúa are planning to wed in this country next September.

The newspaper El Dia, quoting the website Labotana, says that the famous singer’s wedding will be in her mansion located in the resort Punta Cana, in Dominican east coast. That same program didn’t reveal the date of the wedding, but several indications point to that month.

And according to Spain’s 20 Minutos, Shakira’s mother-in-law-to-be, Inés Pertiné, has already hired designer María Pryor to make Shaki’s wedding dress.

Shakira: “I had lice”

11:29 am By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Celebrities|children|Health · 1 Comment

9 May 2007

17207.jpgIn celebrity gossip of the weird variety, Colombiana superstar Shakira says she had lice when she was a kid, and in a recent event in Barranquilla for her non-profit, Fundación Pies Descalzos, she comforted a little girl who had them by giving her a hug and telling her own story about life with the little creatures:

The singer showed empathy with a little girl that had lice.

When Shakira went to hug her and take a photo with her, another little girl accused her classmate of having head lice.

Even the school principal, alarmed at the possibility of the little girl giving the singer lice wanted to take the girl out of Shakira’s arms.

Shakira wouldn’t allow it. “It’s natural, you don’t have to be ashamed,” she told the girl, according to radio show America Showbiz. The singer then confessed that she also had lice as a child and that her mom sprayed her head with insecticide to kill them. “Don’t do that please. Today there are pills that will get rid of them right away,” she advised.

Now I feel all itchy. The lesson to be learned: even celebrities have parasites. But more importantly: anything and everything Shakira says, does or even thinks is an international headline.

Shakira likes Beyonce’s Spanish

4:17 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Celebrities|language|Music · 21 Comments

beyonce-shakira_200.jpgLate last year we told you about Beyonce’s foray into Spanish language singing on a duet with Shakira. Well, the video’s been out for a while, but now Shaki is clucking about what a polyglot Beyonce has become, and the experience of working with her overall:

Shak told MTV, “(Beyonce) has a very good accent when she sings in Spanish and I think anything that she wants to do she will do just fine, because she is a very determined and focused woman and that is something to admire. She is a great artist.”

She added, “I am very happy and very excited about (working with Bey). I have just finished shooting a video with her. It was a fantastic experience to work with her, to get to know her as the great artist that she is.

“She is an amazing performer and also a sweet person and a very nice human being and I am so thrilled and thankful for her invitation. It was her idea to make me a part of her album and it has been wonderful.”

God, that’s a lot of booty-kissing. Why is a superstar like Shaki acting like she’s humbled by Beyonce’s greatness?

If you still haven’t seen the video, check it out after the jump.

It Wasn’t the Latin Grammy Awards but Latinos Were Still Awarded

1:50 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Events|Music · Comments Off

12 Feb 2007

070211_shakira_03.jpgIn November of last year I was able to watch the 7th Annual Latin Grammy Awards live and in person in Madison Square Garden. Last night’s 49th Annual Grammy Awards in the Los Angeles Convention Center, was watched in the comfort of my bedroom. Shakira, who swept the Latin Grammy awards, didn’t win last night (in the category of best pop collaboration) but she performed Hips Don’t Lie(yes, that song again) looking golden, literally and figuratively.
Christina Aguilera‘s Ain’t no other man won Best Female Pop Song.

Many of the Grammy winners in Latin music last night were also winners of Latin Grammy Awards in November of last year.

shakira.jpgIs anyone else getting a little tired of Shakira. Don’t get me wrong, I think she’s beautiul and talented and respect much of her humanitarian work but I think my hips have had enough of Hips Don’t Lie (or maybe my daughter just plays Shaki’s music too damn much). The general population can’t seem to get enough the Colombiana and her caderas. Shakira and her song were granted the People’s Choice Award in the catagory of Pop Song of 2006 on January 9th in Los Angeles. Shakira wasn’t presente at the ceremony because she’s in Europe prepping for her tour there.

8:08 am By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Activism|Celebrities · Comments Off

20 Dec 2006

m61649.jpgColombiana superstar Shakira and legendary author Gabriel Garcia Marquez are teaming up to help stop child poverty in Latin America via a new foundation:

Shakira joined with fellow Colombian and Nobel Prize laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez on Tuesday to launch a star-studded foundation to fight child poverty in Latin America.

Backed by the two Colombians and other luminaries of entertainment and finance, the Latin America in Solidarity Action _ whose Spanish acronym is ALAS, or “wings” _ took flight with a promise to tackle poverty that kills 350,000 children each year in the region.

Shakira and Gabo are joined in the efforts by Spanish pop star Miguel Bosé (pictured above with Shakira), who will act as Executive Director, as well as other Latino musicians such as

Ruben Blades, Juanes, Ricky Martin, the rock group Mana, Aleks Syntek, David Bisbal and Alejandro Sanz.

As we’ve posted before, Shakira is also an ambassador for UNICEF and heads up her own foundation to help children, Pies Descalzos.
