Banda star Lupillo Rivera’s ex wife went ballistic on his current wife earlier this week, striking the latter multiple times in the head and leaving her injured. Police arrived on the scene and promptly arrested María Gorola, the ex wife, but she was later released on $500 bail.
Lupillo’s publicist sent VL the following statement in Spanish:
Lupillo and Mayeli would like to express their deep appreciation for the support received during this difficult week. Neither of them will offer any statements about the incident because of the discretion that a case that is still under investigation demands. In spite of being a public figure, the priority of Lupillo is the weell-being of his wife and children and he understands that any statement that he can make might hurt his children more. We ask everyone that this issue be respected as private and person. If you need more information please contact the Long Beach Police Department.
On the other hand, Lupillo’s ex, the accused, says that the “incident has been manipulated to show the other person as the victim.”

Remember Sergio Andrade, Gloria Trevi’s creepy husband/manager who went to jail on charges of kidnapping, assault, et al? Just when we thought we had seen the last of him, he’s back with a book of poems and a new album. According to People en Español:
In an interview with the newspaper Reforma, Andrade revealed that during his time in prision he took refuge in literature. “In jail, the loneliness, the isolation and the distance put you in a situation of physical and emotional darkness that is such that, if you don’t make an effort to bring out the light you have on the inside, there is no way of surviving”, he said, adding that he still suffers from depression after the long and turbulent years he went through and that ended with him in a Chihuahua prison.
Andrade’s new book of poems is called Crónicas de la misma historia and his new album Las cuentas claras.
Meanwhile, Gloria herself seems to have recuperated quite well, has been touring and most recently appeared on the Nuestro Himno recording.

About the naked pictures her ex-husband sold to Penthouse. She also says she wasn’t naked in them (sounds like Foto-Chop!):
“I thought he was a gentleman, but know I see he’s not,” said Pilar, referring to her ex-husband.
“I’m super hurt, those were personal photos. I did them in lingerie, so those naked photos, I’m sure they took my clothes off with the computer.”, said the singer, who also said she did the photos because Jorge himself asked her to, with an American photographer who didn’t know who Pilar was, somewhere in Ft. Lauderdale or West Palm Beach.
Jorge Reynoso, her ex, responds with a very bizarre letter sent to the press in the Dominican Republic, which you can read in its entirety (in Spanish) on the Univision website.

Most of you have probably never heard of First Data Corporation, a Denver-based company specializing in transaction services. But the brand name Western Union should ring a bell. Western Union, a company that makes billions of dollars yearly on the backs of Latino immigrants who send money to their home countries has long been criticized for exploiting customer with high fees for wiring funds. Now, a Colorado publication is speculating that the involvement of First Data CEO Charles Fote’s in the immigration debate is the issue that proved to be his demise:
Over the last two years Fote had become a champion of enlightened debate over immigration reform, and First Data has sponsored a series of public forums to discuss and explore the issue. In March 2004, First Data created a $10 million “Empowerment Fund” to support Hispanic immigrants and counter anti-immigration movements across the country. The Fund, whose advisory panel includes Raul Yzaguirre, CEO of the National Council of La Raza (“The Race”), had allocated $800,000 for a Denver pilot program to increase the number of Latino business owners via the local Hispanic Chamber.
