See Sarah Palin’s face as John McCain steps in to defend her from Katie Couric? That’s her saying ” Stop, you’re making my feminism look bad,”.

On today’s political stage, image is everything and substance is just that, filler. As people await the VP debates later this week, the concern is who will make more mistakes, who will fuck up worse and how that will play out in November.

Sarah Palin, held up as a an everymujer, proves herself over and over again as not fit to run a country and it’s not about what she looks(ed) like in a swimsuit.

I’m not a David Letterman fan (I just don’t think he’s that funny) pero I love how he sets up John McCain and Sarah Palin and then proceeds to cut em down.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few hours, you know that the political world is abuzz about McCain’s plans to “suspend” his campaign so that he can ‘concentrate’ on the financial crisis.

John McCain is making another big gamble, announcing today that he will suspend his campaign and return to Washington to work on a solution to the financial crisis.

Chris Rock Talks Moose Hunting and White Ladies

4:11 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · US Presidential Race 2008 · Comments Off

The following video is definitly very funny. I laughed at all of it. At the same time, I was just a bit uncomfortable with the assertion that Hillary Clinton didn’t lose the election because of sexism. Which is odd, because on the whole, although I do feel that Clinton was subjected to sexism and sexism was 100% a part of the coverage of her bid, I also, for the most part, don’t feel like she *lost* because of sexism.

I think the thing that makes me uncomfortable is a man dismissing sexism. It’s offensive–men don’t get to tell women that something did or didn’t happen because of sexism, just like white folks don’t get to tell people of color that something did or didn’t happen because of racism.

But in the end, Rock’s point is really well made: why does slaughter of animals get a black man prison time and a white woman the Vice Presidential nod?

How is whiteness invested in ‘protecting’ animals even as it uses the destruction of animals to define itself?

The Many Rumors of Sarah Palin

SarahTrig.jpgI’ve learned to take rumors for what they are…often not true, often partially true, often completly true. Sarah Palin has had a huge amount of rumors swirling about her since she announced her candidacy, one of the biggest being that her daughter gave birth to Trig (the youngest child you’ve probably seen in the arms of the older children) and Palin was passing it off as her own. I, frankly, thought that this particular rumor was completly out there untrue, until the Palin camp released a statement saying her daughter was really preggers.

Last night, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin accepted the nomination to the vice-presidency at the Republican National Convention.

Originally the buzz about Palin, focused on her having a vagina. Her presence was analyzed as a calculated McCain strategy to lure disgruntled, hard core Hillary Clinton supporters.

Then the shift went internal, to her uterus, her identity as a mother to five, the youngest with some form of developmental delay, and a 17 year old daughter, unmarried and pregnant.

So what does this Palin parranda of information and analysis mean to mamis of color, Latina mamis like me? Not surprisingly, nada.
