I love the way Marc Anthony and JLo make my job so much easier. Mondays are always tough, but Marc and JLo help me along by doing and saying weird stuff on a consistent enough basis, making posting great gossip to VL that much easier. Case in point: JLo’s hubby believes that Spanish music legend RocÃo Durcal is communicating with him from beyond the grave, and ordering him to listen to a song she wrote for JLo, according to Spain’s 20 Minutos:
Marc Anthony claims that RocÃo Dúrcal appeared to him in dreams and asked him to listen to a song that she had written for his wife, singer and actress Jennifer Lopez.Anthony claims that the strange dream took place two weeks after the singer’s death. According to the composer (Anthony), he got out of bed and recorded his own voice on an answering machine humming the song that Dúrcal sent him, including the title, “Qué hiciste”.
Jennifer Lopez thought for months about what she could do with the song, and finally decided to include it on her last Spanish album, “Cómo ama una mujer”.
Sounds like Marc Anthony is competing for the honor of the Latino world’s Tom Cruise.

Spain was rocked today by the news of the death of music legend RocÃo Jurado. This news comes roughly a month after the death of another famed Spanish performer, RocÃo Durcal:
Spain is mourning the death of one of its most celebrated performers.Singer and actress Rocio Jurado has died at the age of 61 from cancer. She last appeared on television in January this year, before heading off to Houston in Texas for specialist treatment.
Her family and friends accompanied the singer’s coffin to a Madrid cultural centre where admirers will have a chance to say farewell.
One woman said: “A page in our history has closed and I don’t know if it’ll be opened up again by someone else. We came to say goodbye.”
Born Maria del Rocio Trinidad Mohedano Jurado, RocÃo was known for her copla work and for her prowess in this genre was nicknamed “La más grande”.

Considered by many as one of Mexico’s most sacred places, la BasÃlica de Guadalupe — the spot where legend says the Juan Diego first encountered la virgen de Guadalupe, Mexico’s patron — was the site of a farewell to Spanish music icon RocÃo Dúrcal.
From El Universal:
Among cheers, ovations and nostalgic mariachi music, the urn containing part of the ashes of singer RocÃo Dúrcal arrived at the BasÃlica de Guadalupe, her final resting place and where homage was paid to her this afternoon in the atrium.
Her husband, Junior and her daughter Carmen placed the urn with the Spanish singers ashes in the atrium of the basilica so that close to 1000 fans could pay their last respects, an homage that was truly moving for the family.

I’ll admit to being a little bit amargada that I couldn’t be in Miami tonight covering the Latin Billboard Awards live but I’ve tuned into Telemundo anyway to see the promised excitement and well so far am finding the same old same old. Daddy Yankee had his entrance exagerado. RBD was nominated three times in one category and won (oh what a surprise-bring it on RBD fans). Shakira won within the first 10 minutes of the show and looked casual and comfy against the parade of novela protagonistas with over the top gowns and culo baring dancers. There was a well deserved tribute to Rocio Durcal and my favorite performance, given by the Cubano hip hoppers, Orishas. Shakira just took stage singing Hips Don’t Lie with Wycliff Jean. And with that I think I’ll call it a night. I’m sure whatever I miss will be on Cada DÃa with Maria Antonieta Collins in the morning.

Friends in Spain tell me that the news of legendary singer RocÃo Dúrcal’s death shook their country, and it’s no wonder why. RocÃo Dúrcal came of age and into fame at a time when Spain was living “de espaldas al mundo” because of a dictatorship. Dúrcal made her career in Spain, but her fame soon spread to Mexico with her working collaborations with Juan Gabriel.
Mexico’s love affair with RocÃo Dúrcal has been going strong ever since. Among my friends in Mexico, old and young, RocÃo was regarded as “una mexicana de corazón” and was so beloved for the passion that she felt for Mexican music genres such as rancheras, mariachi and bolero.
To speak of RocÃo is to speak of Juan Gabriel. In México, it is hard for people to separate the two. Juan Gabriel, as controversial as he has been through the years, is truly a Mexican icon, and by extension RocÃo became that as well. Like any good “pareja”, they fought a lot, but always seemed to come back together (although it seems that RocÃo was once again annoyed with him before she died…apparently he hadn’t checked up on her the last time she was hospitalized).

Rocio Durcal, a Spanish singer and actress, died yesterday at her home in Madrid. Durcal was diagnosed with womb cancer in 2001.
A star since childhood, Durcal acted in many films but was also famous for her singing, particularly Mexican “rancheras”.
Born into a family of six, Durcal’s success in various radio shows quickly attracted film makers in the 1960s and 1970s. In all, she made some 15 films, including “Cancion de Juventud”, (Song of Youth) and “Rocio de La Mancha” and “Marianela”, in which she acted, sang and danced.
She made her first trip to Mexico when she was 17 and has been popular there and throughout Latin America, as well as Spain, ever since.
She performed along side stars such Juan Gabriel, Julio Iglesias, Joan Manuel Serrat, Luis Miguel, Ricky Martin, and Alejandro Sanz.
