Pop tart Ricky Martin will get a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame next year, along with a list of stars from the TV, film and recording industries. How they fit so many stars on that street each year is a mystery to me. Do they “delete” people after a while? Here’s the complete list of who will be honored in 2008:
Movies: Angela Bassett, Cate Blanchett, Tim Robbins, Stan Lee, the Munchkins (from “The Wizard of Oz”) and the Westmores of Hollywood, a longtime show-business makeup family.Television: Howie Mandel, Susan St. James, Bill Geist, Kate Linder, Howie Mandel, Sherwood Schwartz, Vince McMahon and, posthumously, Brian Keith.
Recording: Brooks & Dunn, Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera, Red Hot Chili Peppers and, posthumously, George Harrison.
Live theater/performance: Stephen Schwartz.
“The Munchkins”? That one’s been a long time in the making — nearly 70 years. Not very PC either.

Ay if only it were that easy, but if what Azteca America reported on their morning show today is true, you or your favorite hombre can at least dress like Ricky Martin or at least in a clothing line the Boricua superstar is slated to begin.
Hmmm I wonder what the line will be called? Something like “ay que rico” seems perfect to me.

We already know that Ricky Martin is the King of the Puerto Rican Day Parade but another Puerto Rican musical act will also be holding court on Fifth Avenue on June 10th. It’s been confirmed that Daddy Yankee will be on the MTV Tr3s float, spitting some reggaeton and waving to the expected millions of onlookers.

All that shaking, gyrating and kicking seems to have had a negative effect on our beloved Ricky Martin, who threw his back out during a performance and has had to cancel tour dates:
He was told that he needs bedrest and has suspended his tour because of the medical recommendation, until he recovers. At a show in Laredo Friday night, Ricky hurt his back while dancing.
The performace of the Puerto Rican star was planned for last Saturday in El Paso, but has been postponed until further notice.
Is Ricky getting too old for all that prancing about? I wish somebody had a video of this, a la Juan Gabriel’s Humpty dance.

8 May 2007Because that papasito Boricua named Ricky Martin is selling-out arenas across the United States with his “Black & White” tour and his song “Tu Recuerdo” is the #1 song on Latin radio this year, SONY/BMG is honoring him and treating us, the fans, by releasing a Limited Edition Tour Pack. The limited edition collector’s set contains the CD RICKY MARTIN: MTV Unplugged and a DVD of the unplugged session as well.

5 Apr 2007While speculation continues about his own sexual orientation ( I mean really though when you’re that hot does it really matter), Ricky Martin is throwing his support behind other Latino musicians who choose to disclose their sexual preferences, specifically Christian of RBD.
“Life is too short to live closed up, guarding what you say,” said Martin _ whose sexual orientation has been the subject of speculation _ in an interview with The Associated Press. Christian “has to be free in many aspects. I wish him much strength.”
Who ever is sleeping in Ricky’s bed is one lucky person. I mean just look at him move.

No, really Ricky Martin is officially a king. The Boricua crooner has been named the first ever King of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade.
Madelyn Lugo, President of the National Puerto Rican Parade Committee says, “Throughout its history, the Parade has awarded many personalities the titles of Grand Marshall and Padrino. As we move beyond our fiftieth year of existence, it’s fitting to create a new title to recognize Ricky Martin, an individual who is not only one of the world’s greatest entertainers, but, more importantly, a true humanitarian. Through it all he has always expressed his pride as a Puerto Rican and a Latino. He has served as one of our greatest ambassadors and we can’t think of a better role model to honor as the ‘King of the Parade.”

Ricky Martin is getting on my good side. First, he’s giving Dubya the finger and now he’s planning on making a documentary to bring attention to problem of human trafficking, a cause very dear to him. He announced his plans in Costa Rica last week:
“Until now, the priority of my foundation has been to educate the world about what is happening, putting numbers on the table, and letting the media know that we need help so that the world will realize that this is organizaed crime,” the singer explained.“Now, my priority, aside from music, is to create a strong, effective documentary. I think that it’s very important that we take this problem to the big screen, to be crude about it, without beating around the bush.”
It doesn’t sound like Ricky will be directing the doc, though he will be helping create the script by looking for the right stories to tell.
Ricky was in Costa Rica for a concert and to launch his new campaign against human trafficking, called Llama y vive, which looks to help victims of this crime via a telephone crisis line.

While I wrote Ricky Martin off for pulling a much too late Dixie Chicks move by giving Dubya the middle finger on a stage in Puerto Rico, the little hip shaker must be commended for standing his ground and not apologizing for this action. Ricky was quoted as saying yesterday:
“My convictions of peace and life go beyond any government and political agenda and as long as I have a voice onstage and offstage, I will always condemn war and those who promulgate it,” Martin said about his action in an e-mail statement sent to The Associated Press via a spokesman.
As proud as we can be of Ricky not backpedaling, I insist that now is the perfect time to gain a little limelight by being critical of this government, when everyone — even Republicans — is turning on this president.
While Ricky’s sexuality remains “ambiguous”, many also question why, pre-war, he would support a president who had already declared himself an enemy of gay rights.

13 Feb 2007Our friends over at Latin Gossip are reporting that Ricky Martin has apparently changed his political stripes: it seems that one of George W. Bush’s more illustrious Latino supporters is now telling him to stick it:
During his performance in Puerto Rico, Ricky Martin stuck his middle finger out when he mentioned President Bush’s name. In the song Asignatura Pendiente, there is a line in the lyrics that goes:“A photo with Bush…”
As he said this, Ricky gave him the F-you treatment and the crowd of 18,000 fans went crazy and cheered.
The irony in all of this is that Ricky was one of the artists to sing for Bush during his inauguration as President.
