That’s right, Mala warned you months ago that this was coming. Now the moment is finally here: the premiere of RBD’s first English language song entitled (paradoxically) Tu amor. Check it out and give us your thoughts, because we’ll be holding our mean little tongues:

According to the intro on this video, the English album comes out in December.

RBD : Those Diablitos!

8:56 am By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Chile|Chismes|Music · 24 Comments

grupo-rbd.jpgI told you all RBD was evil and now the vice-president of their Chilean fan club has proven it. According to Latina, Francisca Fabia says if you play backwards two songs off RBD’s latest album you too can hear “Satanic messages”.

Fabia claims the song “Rebelde” contains the lyrics, Ven y abrázame, demonio (“come and hug me, demon”), and that “Sálvame” says, El malo me lleva (“the bad one is taking me”).

Mira if you’re like me, listening to RBD is bad enough (to say nothing about watching the novela) so listening to their songs backwards has gotta be like a trip to hell and back. But seriously do young people in Chile need more activities in their life or que?

070613_PJ_sexyph1.jpgLast night Univision aired the third annual Premios Juventud live from Miami complete with a blue carpet to welcome the estrellas and semi-estrellas. Many of the usual suspects were present including Don Omar, RBD, Alejandra Guzman, Ivy Queen, Calle 13, India, Bacilos , Thalia and Bobby Larios (sans Niurka). Notably absent were Shakira, who is on her nation-wide Oral Fixation tour and Daddy Yankee, who actually was booed when he won Artista Favorita de Musica Urbana. The fashion on the blue welcome mat was tetas and culos for the women, with the exception of Thalia, who wore a short gold dress for her entrance.

grupo-rbd.jpgIt’s nothing personal. I just really dislike bubble gum pop music in any language, especially when it’s not just a band but a television show and a concert and a magazine. I should have seen it coming. The warning signs were all there, like when I was at a party on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and this guy from Israel was singing RBD songs. But there is a whole new level of cred that comes with making it in the New York Times and that day has come. According to the Times:

RBD (known by the Spanish pronounciation, “erre beh deh”), a photogenic Mexican sextet that started out as a soap opera spin-off but now rules the world of Latin pop with feel-good teen anthems and Las Vegas-style concert productions. Yet the group remains all but unknown among English speakers, a problem its members are hoping to solve by recording their first English-language album. Due this fall, the album is being aimed at non-Latinos in the United States, as well as markets in Canada and even Asia.

I can barely handle them in Spanish. Now I have to look forward to them in English?

billboardlatino2005jpg.jpg I’ll admit to being a little bit amargada that I couldn’t be in Miami tonight covering the Latin Billboard Awards live but I’ve tuned into Telemundo anyway to see the promised excitement and well so far am finding the same old same old. Daddy Yankee had his entrance exagerado. RBD was nominated three times in one category and won (oh what a surprise-bring it on RBD fans). Shakira won within the first 10 minutes of the show and looked casual and comfy against the parade of novela protagonistas with over the top gowns and culo baring dancers. There was a well deserved tribute to Rocio Durcal and my favorite performance, given by the Cubano hip hoppers, Orishas. Shakira just took stage singing Hips Don’t Lie with Wycliff Jean. And with that I think I’ll call it a night. I’m sure whatever I miss will be on Cada Día with Maria Antonieta Collins in the morning.

Lupillo to Host Billboard Latin Awards

5:28 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Celebrities|Media|Music|Women · Comments Off

15 Mar 2006

lrivera.jpgThe hosts for the 2006 Latin Billboard Latin Awards have been revealed. Lupillo Rivera, a huge force in that mix of genres that gringos like to call “Regional Mexican” and TV personality Candela Ferro will be doing the honors:

Rivera is a finalist this year for regional Mexican album of the year, male solo artist for “El Rey de las Cantinas” (Univision/UG) and regional Mexican airplay song of the year, male solo artist for “Ya Me Habian Dicho.”

The 2006 Billboard Latin Music Awards will mark the fourth time that Ferro has co-hosted the show. Candela currently presents the top-rated Telemundo primetime program “Decisiones.”

As previously reported, reggaeton star Daddy Yankee and Mexican pop phenomenon RBD — both part of the youth movement that dominated Billboard’s Latin charts last year — are the leading finalists for the 2006 awards. Daddy Yankee is a finalist in 10 categories. RBD, which burst into mainstream consciousness last year with “Rebelde,” is a contender in nine categories, including top Latin albums artist.

More RBD and more Daddy Yankee. Can we get some diversity up in here please?
