11 Nov 2008Leave it to the Daily show to be real about our new ‘post-racial’ world.
It’s amusing to me to think of how many of the white liberals in the audience probably have no idea what thehy’re laughing at.

It still appears too early to get this video from youtube, but ABC.com has it, and it is a miserable joy to watch.
The scenario: The View’s Elizabeth Hasselbeck is SO angry about that evil Reverend Wright and Barack Obama. How *dare* Obama sit and listen to his speeches and how dare he pray with him or be friends with him, and how dare anybody defend that church? Cuz you know, like, Elizabeth totally doesn’t care about the color of a church (purple, pink, blue and green), you will not be a total a-hole about supporting our glorious nation!
Even if you *are* a black man that had to get off the sidewalks when a white person was on it and wasn’t allowed to vote and saw loved ones lynched. FORGIVE AND FORGET.
Dammit.
At which point, Whoopi got out her can of whoop ass and took down the gloriously naive Liz with a few well placed punches and a little help from her friends.

30 Oct 2008So, white folks, black folks and Latin@s all made it onto Obama’s infomerical last night. Overall, I thought it was interesting and I especially appreciated how in depth Obama was willing to go into the lives of people who are struggling with this messed up economy. I did have a small nitpick, however, with how The Latinos were represented or “dealt with.”
Here’s a clip:
Compare this to how the white families were treated or the black family. It sorta seems like the Latino family got schooled, huh? Like rather than a three point program on how Obama will help us negotiate these tough times, the solution for Latinos is to get our asses up at 4:30 in the morning with our kids and teach them what ‘real’ Americans are.
But perhaps this is simply my very cynical-wanting-the-election-to-be-over opinion. What did you think of the video?

11 Feb 2008Remember that superviral Obama “Yes We Can” video we told you about last week? Well, John McCain’s got one too…kind of. A group of witty videomakers have created a parody and the butt of the joke is the Democratic party’s biggest nightmare. Check it out:

Ralph Nader’s threatening to run for president again, even though he’s one of the reasons why we got stuck with the arbusto in the first place:
Ralph Nader, the consumer advocate who ran for president in 2000 and 2004, said he is considering another bid for the White House because he believes the current contenders aren’t standing up enough to corporate interests.“Look at the major areas of injustice, deprivation and solutions that are not being addressed by the major candidates,” Nader, 73, said in a telephone interview today. Among other issues, he cited the need for a “practical timed withdrawal” from Iraq, programs to crack down on corporate fraud and a rearrangement of the U.S. tax system.
That’s all well and good, Ralph, but didn’t you learn your lesson when you — along with the millions of people who voted for Bush — helped screw us back in 2000? Is your ego really that big that you could be selfish enough to risk doing that again?
This makes my blood boil. I’m all for opening up our system beyond the two parties — which (one more than the other) are greatly lacking on many fronts — but unfortunately a viable election between more than just Republicans and Democrats just isn’t a reality right now. So until citizens can look beyond just the two mammoth parties, Nader needs to back out.
