Paulina reveals details about her wedding

pauco.jpgPeople en Español reports that Paulina Rubio isn’t being shy with details about her engagement and upcoming wedding to her Spanish boyfriend Colate. Pau spills the beans:

“We are very, very sure that we want it to be in Spring. Spring is the most romantic season for this type of ceremony, the singer revealed to ¡Hola! magazine. “I’ll be dressed totally in white, I want a very simple design because that day I want to shine more than the dress. I’ll have a few dresses ready and I won’t decide which one I’ll wear until the last minute,” added the future bride…

Three wedding dresses? Way to keep it down to earth, Pau. But could we expect anything less from la chica dorada?

Pau went on to tell details of the romantic marriage proposal that was sprung on her by her boyfriend in Paris, of all cliche places:

“It was very romantic, I was really nervous, Colate didn’t speak, his lips were dry and his face was white,” she said, and added that when he gave her the ring her reaction was to scream. “I started screaming and jumping up and down like a crazy person. We hugged and couldn’t stop, until Colate asked me: ‘Well, yes or no?’ ”. And as if that weren’t enough, the two sealed their engagement at the Eiffel Tower. “We went underneath the Eiffel Tower and right in the middle, we got engaged.”

I think I am going to be ill.

Paulina is getting married

paulinarubio2.jpgPaupau se nos casa. Latino pop’s “Golden Girl”, Paulina Rubio, is allegedly preparing a wedding ceremony with her Spanish bf Colate, according to the groom-to-be’s father, reports People en Español:

“My son told me a few weeks ago that Paulina and he were getting married,” revealed José Ignacio Vallejo-Nájera to Spanish magazine ¡Hola!. “The wedding is being planned as they want it: the place, the organizing…” he said, after mentioning that the maid of honor would be Colate’s mother.

People en Español apparently tried to confirm the rumor with Pau’s PR guy but no dice, he isn’t saying anything.

We can’t imagine what a Paulina Rubio wedding will be like. She’s such a diva and already has to be such a protagonist in everything she does, we can only guess that Pau will be a Latina bridezilla.

Paulina Rubio: P Blonde la españolita

12:26 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Celebrities|Chismes · Comments Off

27 Sep 2006

paulina-rubio.jpgI’ve been hearing all over that Paulina Rubio has changed her name to P. Blonde. WTF?

I first heard it in the background on some Telemundo show, so I Googled it and a lo and behold:

En los agradecimientos que Pau firma se autonombra P. Blonde —”muy chic”— al estilo JLo.

Maybe I just hate these celebrity nicknames — JLo, P Diddy, Big Daddy — but what was wrong with Paulina Rubio? It’s a nice enough name. And the gangsta-ness of the “P” gets a bit diluted by the adjective “blonde”, which conjures up images of Anna Nicole Smith or Marilyn Monroe. Real badass.

Meanwhile, in Mexico everyone is hating on Pau for having recently developed a fake Spanish accent. Her CD is number one is Spain now (selling 80,000 copies in just one week), so perhaps adopting the local lexicon helped that along.

On another random note, and I know I’m probably late to the game, did you guys know that Pau was also doing Pro-Active Solution commercials a la Jessica Simpson?

Paulina would bite Thalia’s ear off

6:26 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Celebrities|Chismes|mexico|radio · Comments Off

22 Sep 2006

TIMBIRICHE.jpgSo much for childhood loyalties. Paulina Rubio and Thalia may have been in Timbiriche together when they were teens, but that doesn’t mean they are homies. Their eternal rivalry has been the stuff of Mexican tabloid covers for decades now. This apparently hasn’t ceased, as Paulina told a radio show — albeit in jest — that if asked to kiss Thalia a la Madonna and Britney, she’d pull a Mike Tyson and bite her ear off:

Paulina Rubio made it clear that she doesn’t like Thalia. In an appearance on the El piolín de la mañana radio show, she was asked who she would allow to kiss her a la Madonna-Britney Spears. The options were Carmen Salinas, la Chupitos or Thalía, to which “la Chica Dorada” responded without hesitation: “Thalía (…) on the ear, but like Mike Tyson,” she said, laughing.

I still remember back in the day when there was a war of words (or of songs) between la Pau and Alejandra Guzmán — and over a guy no less.

Paulina: Sorry for using purse as a weapon

8:03 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Celebrities|Chismes · 1 Comment

15 Sep 2006

paulina_rubio_150b.jpgPaulina Rubio is saying sorry for pimp slapping a papparazzi in Miami with her handbag. Apparently the first version was that Pau was harrassed by a couple of photogs to the point of actually pulling some buttons off of her blouse, later to be debunked by airport cameras whose tapes showed Pau using her purse as a deadly weapon (article in Spanish).

Now, according to People en Español, Pau is recognizing her guilt and saying sorry:

Paulina Rubio knows when to admit she’s wrong, and that’s why she has accepted her responsibility in an incident in which she struck a female paparazzi at the Miami airport. “I made a mistake,” la Chica Dorada told Univision.com. “I’m sorry, I set a bad example and it isn’t right,” she said emphatically, but pointing out that the photojournalists were “putting the camera in my face” and “kicking and insulting me.”

Pau should stay her little colita in Spain, where they ADORE her (an adoration I was subjected to over and over again by Spanish press in the past few weeks).

Live Blogging the Not So Live ALMA Awards

2978008e-bf58-43b3-8867-2d37902b110c-small.jpgEva came back looking nice and telling some good jokes about being the first Latina with a white gardener. Awww mira que cute Freddy Rodriguez is. I loved him in Six Feet Under.

Ok wait hold up one second. Why do we need to hear songs about loving women hot like jalepenos? Followed by Paulina Rubio shaking her ass. So far this show is doing absolutely nothing in terms of countering stereotypes of Latina women as hot-blooded. What the hell is Paulina bringing to this show anyway.

Maybe because I’m east coast and Rican I don’t get Big & Rich and Cowboy Troy. Tell me I’m missing something big.

almaawards.gifNothing stereotypical here. Just a bunch of scantily clad latinas (and one latina wannabe) shakin’ their asses. Wasn’t the idea of this award show abot positive Latino images and we’re watching people clapping for hip shaking? Uuuy and Paulina Rubio can’t sing – at least not in English anyway. That was the worse opening number I’ve ever seen.

What is up with all of Eva Longoria‘s giggling and what is Jessica Simpson doing looking like a carrot at the ALMA awards? The daughter on Gilmore Girls is Latina? She’s nominated as outstanding actress in a television series. The winner, Judy Reyes, just called out why the hell Jessica Simpson is there.

paulinarubio2004.jpg Maybe they saw that VL’s very own Jennifer was calling them out on their silence around the immigration issue. Whatever the reason, a bunch of Latino celebs are finally speaking out. Bobby Pulido, Paulina Rubio, Jose Manuel Figueroa, Maria Sorte, and Daddy Yankee in separate interviews on Univision’s chisme show El Gordo y la Flaca all said something in favor of immigrants (surprise surprise). La chica dorada aka Paulina Rubio gave props to

…the work force and labor the Latino community represents in the US.

and said that:

What we need is a balanced law in both countries.
