Paulina Rubio Settles Hitting Incident Out of Court

Do you guys remember this little piece of chisme history?

This incident came to be known as “el carterazo”, because PauPau hit a papparazzi, one Luz Amanda Orozco, with her cartera when the star was approached by Orozco at Miami International Airport in 2006. What came out of that incident, in addition to embarassment, was a lawsuit, filed by Orozco who demanded half a million dollars from La Chica Dorada.

There’s no telling what’s been going on behind closed doors, but it seems that Pau’s legal nightmares are over, as the pair seems to have reached a settlement. People en Español reports that the legal secretary handling the case was informed by attorneys today that there will be no suit, as some kind of agreement (mum’s the word) has been reached.

So VivirLatino couldn’t attend (as in couldn’t afford) The Latino Inaugural Gala. Pero just in case you were wondering what the famosos who attended are thinking about the soon to be President Obama (that feels nice to write), here you go.

See Shakira after the jump.

Ay Caramba! The I Hate Cinco de Mayo Stereotypes Post!

NEW%20cincodemayo_5x7_back.jpgEver since VL started way back when, Jennifer and I have been complaining about Cinco de Mayo being misunderstood and misused as an excuse for half price margaritas.

But this year seems to be especially special because my inbox has been flooded with Cinco de Mayo marketing tie-ins way beyond your normal Mexican hat dance drinking games.

paulinaconcierto180.jpgEarlier this week we told you that La Oreja de Van Gogh (the group that makes me want to cut off my own orejas) was losing its vocalist, Amaia Montero, all but disintegrating the sugary sweet pop group. Enter the not-so-sweet, always controversial Paulina Rubio, who according to Mexican chisme show La Oreja (no relation) might become La Oreja’s (the group) new vocalist for their next album:

Due to the fact that Amaia Montero has left La Oreja de Van Gogh, Paulina Rubio could become the new voice of this successful group, although just for one album, according to a member of the Spanish pop band.

Drummer Haritz Garde told Spanish radio program “La Jungla” that the possibility of “la chica dorada” being the voice La Oreja de Van Gogh on their next album is being negotiated.

He said that there are still some “record company issues” to be resolved, but that the Mexican singer “has committed” to the group.

Naked Paulina Rubio offends Mexican government

paulina-bandera-desnuda101007.jpgPaulina Rubio could be accused of being a little too patriotic. She’s metida en un pedoin big trouble — for posing in her birthday suit, covered only by the Mexican flag.

Cosmopolitan magazine’s Spanish edition features Paulina Rubio, 36, apparently naked underneath a red, white and green sheet.

Mexico’s Interior Department said the photographs may have violated an article in the National Flag, Shield and Anthem Law.

“May have violated?” Anybody remember this (relatively tame) incident?

The UK’s SkyNews reports that the Paulina could be fined around $4000 for the “desecration” of the Mexican flag. She can tack that on to her mounting Mexican tax debts. Maybe she should have stuck to pretending to be Spanish.

Dame Otro Tequila: Paulina wants booze and to smell good

Newly-hitched Paulina Rubio hasn’t shed her diva personae one bit since settling down. She’s a star and wants star treatment, as evidenced by a strange demand imposed on concert organizers in Vigo, Spain:

Mexican singer Paulina Rubio has asked that for ther stay in Vigo, where she will give a concert next Saturday, she have 18 types of perfume and several bottles of tequila, and that her dressing room be very colorful.

Concert promoters say they’ll give her whatever the hell she wants, as long as she shows up on time, since Pau Pau “hasn’t said which day she’ll be arriving in Vigo, accompanied by an entourage of 40 people.” They have reason to be worried, as Paulina has been known to skip out on engagements.

I don’t know.La Chica Dorada may be bitchy and demanding, but she’s no JLo.

Paulina dissed in Puerto Rico

Paulina_rubio_040606.jpgIf ticket sales are any indication of how Puerto Ricans feel about Paulina Rubio, then la chica dorada’s relationship with PR must be on the rocks. PauPau’s concert there only sold a measly 1500 tickets, forcing officials to reorganize the seating inside the Coliseo de Puerto Rico to make up for the lack of attendees.

Paulina wasn’t fazed, and expressed her desire to “dejar la piel arriba del escenario” no matter how many people showed up. That’s good, as she needs the money.

TIMBIRICHE1.jpgIt seems that the best time for a pop group to make a comeback is about 20 years after their peak, when their original followers are adults and can now see them as something nostalgic from their youth, and not the banal pre-fab product machine that they were. Timbiriche, Mexico’s most popular 80s pop group made up of kids — which spawned the careers of Paulina Rubio, Thalia and other less illustrious members — is back and reuniting for a tour. And even Thalia is down for it.

After making a few adjustments in her calendar, Thalia will participate in the reunion of the ex-members of, the band with which she took her first baby steps in the music industry and this year celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Kind makes you feel old, huh?

Paulina gets dissed by Spanish justice

paulina-rubio.jpgBack in December we told you that Paulina Rubio was in hot water with the Mexican IRS for not paying her taxes (public service announcement: have you done your taxes yet?) and it looks like she thought she found a way to pay off some of that debt: by suing people.

Spain’s El Semanal Digital reports that Pau, along with Spanish star attorney Javier Saavedra (known for representing celebs and was even called on by Saddam Hussein for his defense), was out to sue her ex-assistant and some tabloids for “deshonra” — something which I guess can be closely translated as slander. Pau and attorney were asking for 600,000 euros and a gag order on the offending parties because of:

…three statements that bothered the Mexican celebrity terribly: the first makes a reference to her “homosexual inclinations”, the second is around accusations that she “induced Ricardo Bofill [Paulina's ex] to consume drugs, and the third that she was physically abusive to her ex-boyfriend.

It’s the most depressing day of the year: cheer up!

22 Jan 2007

depression.jpgToday is supposedly the most depressing day of the year. Experts have discovered that the Monday of the last full week in January is the most horrible depressing of all of our 365 days:

It has been singled out by Dr Cliff Arnall, psychologist and former tutor at Cardiff University, who has used mathematical equations to reach his verdict.

He worked out that people are most likely to get the blues in the final full week of January because of the combination of bad weather, Christmas debts and broken New Year resolutions.

If indeed you are feeling especially down this Monday, maybe a few of these compelling stories will help get you through the rest of the day:
