Ok we get it U.S. media. The only way you would believe that Ines Sainz was subjected to sexual harassment is if she looked like Betty la Fea before her “transformation” of course.

For those that don’t know what I’m referring to, Ines Sainz, a sports reporter for Mexican TV Azteca was at a NY Jets practice, and later in the locker room, specifically to conduct an interview with quarterback Mark Sanchez. It was during that practice that Sainz alleges that footballs were thrown her way to bring players to where she stood and it was in that locker room that she says she was catcalled.

And then the firestorm began. And no the firestorm wasn’t about the harassment. Save that for a sports reporter who doesn’t have a Latino surname. The firestorm was about what Sainz was wearing and how her “booty” and how her daring to work with that body was to blame. It especially helps that Sainz has that accent because women with accents and certain body types and Spanish surnames especially have it coming.

Here are just a few headlines I saw found while Googling :

football.jpg Just in time for the Superbowl Batanga.com has teamed up with Hispanic Media Inc. and McDonald’s to launch the first online Spanish language site focusing on Latinos in the National Football League. The site contains info on the history of Latinos in the NFL and has stats and multimedia content on Latinos currently playing in the NFL. Marketing the Mickey D’s is a big part of the endeavor as golden arches are prominent on the site. According to the press release:

HMI and McDonalds recognize the growing interest in the NFL amongst US Hispanics and created this online channel to celebrate Latinos, past and present, who have play important roles in this great sport.

NFL Spices it Up

azteca.bmpThis weekend, for the first time ever, the NFL will hold a regular-season game outside of the USA. The San Francisco 49′ers will play the Arizon Cardinals on October 2 at 8:30pm EST. It will count as a home game for the Cardinals.

Mexico is the world’s second largest market for the NFL, after the US itself. The Estadio Azteca can hold over 100,000 people, and it is expected to be full, breaking the record for highest attendance of a regular season NFL game.

I think this is a great move by the NFL. Now since Mexico has so many fans of futbol americano, will we ever see a Mexican team join the NFL?
