29 Oct 2009When America’s Voice raised enough cash to buy a spot for their Drop Dobbs ad in a Latino in America time slot, CNN felt that their loyalty to hateful Dobbs was worth more so they passed.
Knowing an opportunity when they see one, the Drop Dobbs ad will play tonight on MSNBC during the Rachel Maddow show at 9:00 pm EST. America’s Voice was able to purchase air time on local cable networks in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, and Washington, DC. So tune in and even if you can’t tune in because the ad isn’t running in your ‘hood (or if you don’t have cable like me), let the CNN head know that one thing you aren’t watching is his network, especially as long as Lou Dobbs is on.

Conservatives call him liberal, and liberals are calling him a republican — MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is igniting conversation all over the internet with comments he made in an interview with L.A. mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. It seems Chris has gotten inside the minds of Latino immigrants, and was schooling Villaraigosa — a Mexican American — on Mexicans. Neat.
Media Matters’ Summary:
MSNBC’s Chris Matthews asserted that Spanish-speaking immigrants “sound like … natural Republicans to me.” Matthews also claimed that “everybody knows” that Puerto Rican, Cuban and Mexican immigrants “don’t want a big social democracy” and that “[t]hey want free enterprise and entrepreneurialism,” citing examples of opening a flower shop or “a bodega.”

As a follow-up to Rebecca’s post on Florida state senator Leslie Miller’s proposal to teach children Spanish in school from grades K-2, I wanted to comment on an exchange I witnessed between Senator Miller and (shiver) Tucker Carlson on the latter’s cable television show which left me despising Carlson even more. Not just because he’s a Republican but because he came off as a childish idiot. In response to Miller’s question of why we shouldn’t start teaching kids Spanish early and let them decide later if they want to continue:
CARLSON: Well, I’ll tell you why. Look, it sounds like you’re open to voluntary solution, which is certainly better than the compulsory one. But there are a lot of things you’d like your kids to know. You know, you’d love to learn them—how to learn to play the xylophone, or the accordion, or speak Esperanto or, you know, learn a lot about Finland.
He’s comparing learning Spanish, regarded by most as second most important language in the world to Esperanto and the xylophone. (He also said “learn them”. Jeez.)
