Last night, An super secret source was inside the taping for an episode of next season’s Top Chef. The episode of the hit Bravo show was filmed on 27th street on the East Side and involved the contestants cooking food for an AIDS organization. The winner was chosen by the people at the dinner (about 300) placing red ribbons on the dish they liked best.
Also present at the taping was Miss Universe, Venezolana Dayana Mendoza. She was fully clothed, unlike the recent fotos of her that have surfaced. My source said that Mendoza is tall, slim, and with booty to spare.
Makes sense that she was at this AIDS charity themed Top Chef challenge, as she is the latest madrina for the Latino Commission on AIDS.
By the way the president of Miss Universe, Paula M. Shugart, said that Mendoza is not in danger of losing her crown over the recently revealed nekkid pics.

Crystle Stewart, from Texas, The Miss Universe contestant fell yesterday during an entrance to the stage during the competition, much like what happened with last year’s U.S. representative.
In Venezuela, potential beauty queens are trained in schools and given plastic surgery pretty much as soon as they come out of their mami’s womb, which may explain why Dayana Mendoza, 22, from Venezuela won the crown.
Mendoza, upon winning played up her cred by revealing that she was a victim of a secuestro express a little over a year ago.
I still don’t get the purpose of Miss Universe, beyond glorifying the idea of what valuable women are supposed to be like, but maybe that’s because I would likely bust my ass on stage too.
Former Miss Mexico and winner of the 2007 “Miss International” contest Priscila Perales was arrested yesterday in Monterrey for drunk driving when a blood alcohol test revealed she had a level of 0.9.
Perales will be hit with the largest fine possible for the offense: 20,000 pesos (about 1800 dollars), which is the highest fine for drunk drivers in Mexico.
The model and beauty queen was also among the finalists for the 2006 Miss Universe pageant.

29 May 2007I tend to side with Miss Sweden who didn’t attend last night’s Miss Universe competition because it doesn’t represent the modern woman. But who hasn’t seen the replay over and over of poor Miss USA, who not only got booed by the live Mexican audience (maybe she should of worn a banner that says amnesty for all immigrants), but she also busted her ass, proving that it ain’t easy being pretty. And in case you haven’t seen Miss USA taking a fall, here it is for your viewing pleasure. You can see Miss USA get booed after the jump.

24 May 2007In an event that could very well have me teetering between life and death as a result of an overdose of cheesiness, Mexican bubble gum pop superstars RBD will be performing at the cheesefest known as Miss Universe, this year taking place in Mexico City:
The Miss Universe Organization announced today that Mexican singing sensation RBD will perform three songs from their award winning album Rebelde during the two-hour LIVE telecast which will simulcast on NBC and Telemundo on May 28, 2007 at 9:00 p.m. ET/delayed PT.
The six young charismatic vocalists that power RBD – Anahi, Dulce Maria, Maite, Christopher, Christian and Alfonso “Poncho” will perform at the National Auditorium and sing their hit songs “Money Money,” “Carino Mio” and “Wanna Play.”
Not sure you can take it? Try viewing the video above and if you can get through it, you’re safe to catch the competition on Monday night. Hopefully no one will faint.

Miss Mexico caused quite a stir with her choice of traditional dress for the Miss Universe pageant.
Miss Mexico, Rosa Maria Ojeda, presented the dress March 29, showing off the billowing, hoop skirt adorned with sketches of Catholic rebels hanging from posts. Rosaries and scapulars hung from the bullet-studded, bandolier belt; a large crucifix necklace, black halter top and wide-brimmed sombrero completed the outfit.
While Ms. Ojeda didn’t intend to make a political statement, many felt it was inappropriate given the rising number of drug related killings in Mexico and the fierce religious debate concerning the legalization of abortion in Mexico.

It’s no surprise to VL readers that Puerto Rican Miss Universe, Zuleyka Rivera, has issues with weight and her body. Right after her win Jennifer questioned if her fainting spell was just nerves or the result of dangerous dieting. Well question no more. The belleza herself admits that she was extreme dieting.
Los entrenamientos y la dieta que llevaba Zuleyka Rivera antes de convertirse en Miss Universo fueron tan extremos que no podía evitar desmayarse continuamente.
What is even more disturbing is the response Zuleyka received when she started to gain weight after her win.

Miss Brazil 2002, Taiza Thomsen, didn’t want anyone to find her, but now she’s out of luck. Her parents reported her missing from her home in Brazil 10 days ago, and after an exhaustive search, she’s been located in London:
Brazilian Federal Police said that the young woman made a phone call from London to announce that she is well and that she simply isn’t interested in having any contact with her family. The ex beauty queen told police commissioner Marcos David Salem that she didn’t want to be found by anyone, not even by her parents, and that is why not even her close friends knew where she was, according to a police statement.
Brazil’s O Globo reports that the family will respect Taiza’s wishes for privacy and not try to contact her.
O Globo also mentions that it’s being reported that Taiza is working as a stripper in London, and that the BBC was contacted by the owner of a strip club to say that he had hired her after he heard about the investigation.

La flaca mas bella del Universo aka Puerto Rican Zuleyka Rivera is using the power of her crown to represent the Latino community for a very worthy cause. Today she was appointed the International Ambassador for the Latino Commission on AIDS. In that role she will support local, regional, national and international initiatives in the areas of HIV/AIDS prevention, health education, capacity building and advocacy. The 18 year old Salinas native said:
I want to encourage HIV/AIDS awareness and education for my peers, but more importantly, I want to be an example for everyone who is afraid of being tested. Together we can all work toward the mutual goal of protecting our loved ones and our communities.

It’s not particularly interesting to me that the newly crowned Miss Universe is Puerto Rican. My views on this pageant pretty much reflect those of my VL compañera, and the show is a cheese fest to boot, so I didn’t watch it. What I am more interested in is the fact that the winner, Zuleyka Rivera Mendoza, collapsed after her coronation. This interests me because I love drama, of course, and because I wonder if her losing consciousness was just the nerves and jubilation, or because she hadn’t been consuming any food in preparation for the event. Apparently, press had the same question.
“She’s okay. She’s fine,” pageant representative Lark Anton told Reuters. “She got dizzy. It’s very hot up here. Her dress is tight – as you could see it was beaded and heavy. She passed out.”Anton said Mendoza “had plenty to eat today,” when pressed for the beauty queen’s condition before she fainted at the center of the stage at the Shrine Auditorium…
Whether she was starving herself or not, the fact that this was a possibility is frightening, and is a terrible example for young girls who idolize these women.
