Michigan Votes No Affirmative Action

michigan.gifAnother proposal that was passed by voters yesterday was a ballot proposal in Michigan which basically makes it legally ok for public universities and other civil service arenas to discriminate against women and people of color. Proposal 2 won 58 percent to 42 percent, with the majority of votes coming from white male conservatives, based on exit polls according to DiversityInc. The proposal had the mis-leading name of The Michigan Civil Rights Initiative (MCRI), leading one to wonder if everyone who voted yes realized they were voting against civil rights.
