finalistas2.jpgI hate to admit it but the first single from the new Menudo incarnation is pretty damn catchy in a pop music I can’t get that song out of my freaking head kind of way. I know the tweens are digging it. Does it compare to the old Menudo? Well I leave that up to you to decide.

Check out the English version and the Spanish version of the song More than Words/ Mas Que Amor.

Menudo Comes Back Tonight : Shut Up and Listen

11:51 am By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Music|TV · Comments Off

25 Oct 2007

The new Menudo begins tonight and as a fan of the old Menudo (and I mean fan. I went to the movies, was a regular in the Menudo store and even went on the Menudo tour bus a time or two) these next batch of boys don’t stir my passions. Of course they are babies and in comparison I’m a vieja. Also, what’s up with them singing about Bentleys? Subete a mi Bentley just doesn’t have the same feel. Did the old Menudo sound like girls???

Be the new Menudo

MENUDO-286x209.jpgMenudo is back! Well, almost. Last year we told you about the new Menudo reality show MTV has dreamed up, and now auditions are about to open so Súbete a mi moto and get down to L.A. for the try-outs!

Casting calls for the new Menudo kick off March 31 near Los Angeles, with the cameras rolling for reality shows on MTV and its bilingual sibling MTV Tr3s.

A recording contract with Epic Records is already in place for the reincarnated Latin supergroup once it forms after a nationwide talent search.

MTV Tr3s will document the “Road to Menudo” in a four-part special beginning May 12. MTV will broadcast a 10-episode show around the final five finalists this fall, with a debut album from Epic scheduled to drop in December.

menudo.jpgLast year, CBS launched a search for a new member of popular rock band INXS via reality show. R&B group TLC did it too. Now, the search for the new Menudo is on, and it’s all going to unfold on MTV.

Unlike the bubble-gum pop of Menudos past, the new five-person group will have a Latin-infused R&B sound. Johnny Wright, who has managed acts from New Kids on the Block to ‘N Sync and Justin Timberlake, will manage the new Menudo.

Why can’t we have stayed with the Menudo of old? Why do we need a new Menudo?

I’m not sure if this means that the new Menudo will no longer be Puerto Rican, since the contest seems to be open to any male between the ages of 15 and 19. What is clear is that Epic records is banking on the success of this venture, and has already signed the still non-existent group to a recording contract. They even have their own MySpace page, which tells us that the auditions began last Saturday in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

You can follow the search for the new Menudo on — where else — Menudo.com.
