Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez is spittin’ mad at Europe for daring criticize his plans to change the constitution to allow for his re-election ad nauseum. He’s calling Europeans out country by country as “cynical” and hypocritical. Venezuelan daily El Universal reports:
“Europe is the queen of cynicism. They are making a big deal because we are here proposing that the people decide on a figure that has existed in Europe for centuries,” said Chavez in his Sunday radio and TV program ¡Aló Presidente! N° 291.
Chavez was referring to the fact that “government without limit” is still valid in many a European country, among them Italy, France, Germany and Portugal.

“The use [of the song] may lead to serious legal consequences for whomever is using it,” the group’s attorney Juan Dalmau told Puerto Rican daily “El Nuevo Día” in today’s issue.“Calle 13’s position is clear: cease and desist,” said the attorney, who also sent a message to the Venezuelan consulate in Puerto Ricos stating the position of the group and its representatives.
Meanwhile, Rosales’ PR guy is biting back, saying that the song was “inspired” by the Calle 13 hit but isn’t the same, and adds that the song was performed by Venezuelan musicians.

With Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez being one of the most, if not the most, controversial figure in Latin American politics today, what/who is the alternative in the upcoming elections in the Bolivarian republic? The answer comes in the form of Manuel Rosales, Governor of el estado de Zulia. According to an article up on today’s AlterNet, Rosales is being portrayed in the media as:
…responsible, pro-American “free-market” technocrat. We’ll hear things like: ‘Rosales is campaigning on a platform of economic stability, increasing foreign investment and keeping inflation in check.’
But Rosales is also pushing some populist reforms to try and please the masses.
