The saying in Spanish is “Mala yerba nunca muere” and case in point, Lou Dobbs.

After grassroots campaigns helped to get former CNN host Lou Dobbs off the air because of his hateful anti-immigrant rhetoric, Dobbs is back. Not surprisingly with the Fox network, specifically it’s business television channel.

From L.A. Times Blog :

Fox Business Network is expected to announce that it has signed Dobbs as early as Wednesday afternoon. It’s the latest high-profile hire for the cable network, which launched a little over three years ago and is in 57 million homes. Although that is far fewer homes than its chief rival, CNBC, Fox Business last week managed to beat CNBC on election night, both in viewers and the key adults 25-54 demographic.

When Dobbs left CNN last November after clashing with management there, he said some leaders had been urging him to “go beyond the role at CNN and to engage in constructive problem-solving as well as to contribute positively to the great understanding of the issues of our day.”

How long do you all give him before that “great understanding” includes immigrant bashing? I wonder if Dobbs tried to get work at any other networks and a Fox outlet was the only one that would have him?

Another reason to be grateful that I don’t have cable.

I don’t watch cable news. I don’t have cable. All my news comes from good old fashioned sources like print media and of course, the internet. I don’t follow Rick Sanchez on twitter nor have I seen much of his work. What I have seen from him usually irritates me and represents a narrow minded, assimilationist perspective of what Latinidad should look like.
What I do know for sure, is that Rick Sanchez was fired from CNN last Friday, one day after making remarks that have been called everything from controversial to anti-semitic.

According to CNN’s own site, Sanchez “left” the company following a critique on Jon Stewart that ended up being a rant against CNN management and then against Jewish people, whose oppressed status he doubted.

On Thursday, Sanchez appeared on the XM Sirius radio program “Stand-Up with Pete Dominick.” During the interview with Dominick, Sanchez called “The Daily Show’s” Jon Stewart “a bigot” and then said that he was bigoted against “everybody else who’s not like him. Look at his show, I mean, what does he surround himself with?”…I’m telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they, the people in this country who are Jewish, are an oppressed minority? Yeah,” Sanchez responded.

Palin/Dobbs 2012 : The Clueless About Latinos Ticket

When Latinos fail, lose, or get fired we are statistics, stereotypes even. When the losers are white they get to have book tours and run for president?

For the last two weeks, two media figures who should have been done for are showing their faces more than ever and with followers to boot.

First we have Sarah Palin and her nationwide book tour. No, I haven’t read the book but if Palin’s publisher wants to send VivirLatino a review copy to do a Latino perspective, I will. Seems like she could use some help in the Latino issues department.

“She did not feel comfortable speaking about issues regarding Hispanics and Latin America,” GOP consultant Ana Navarro told Univision anchor Jorge Ramos in an interview. “Those are not topics that come up frequently in Alaska. So she asked to cancel the interview and, unfortunately, you were already there.”

Seems like her target readership could use some help in the issues department in general.

Because everyone else is doing it.

Correction, because everyone else doing it and I want to do it too but a little differently.

Because VivirLatino was reached out by various organizations spearheading the Basta Dobbs and Drop Dobbs campaign to endorse the added pressure on CNN, its advertisers, and Lou Dobbs.

Because Lou Dobbs is no longer on CNN.

Because we’re pretty damn sure that while one platform has closed for Dobbs, the number of hate comments/mail that VivirLatino has received for our coverage of Dobbs and our support for his leaving CNN proves that there is still a public who accepts his distortion of reality when it comes to undocumented immigrants and Latinos as factual news. Dobbs still has daily radio show
broadcast by more than 160 stations as part of the United Stations Radio Networks Inc. He has his lifetime membership to the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, which put out their own statement welcoming Dobbs’ leaving the news network. Some of the latest political bochinche has Dobbs possibly running for Senate in New Jersey (information gleaned from the NY Post which we will not link to). We should also add that reports have Dobbs leaving CNN with $8 million in severance pay.

Don’t get us wrong. Struggles and movements need victories and this is one and we should celebrate it pero not for too long. Dobbs is already doing the show circuit and he will continue to spew his racist nonsense. The real problem is that his nonsense talks comes at a time when the U.S. Government makes statement after statement about the need for immigration reform, while separating families first and writing legislation later. Pero that’s a whole different post or a dozen.

Mad props to the peeps at Basta Dobbs! and Drop Dobbs and the hundreds of thousands who supported the efforts cuz it looks like little Louie is packing up his toys and going home.

Lou Dobbs, the longtime CNN anchor whose anti-immigration views made him a TV lightning rod, plans to announce Wednesday that he is leaving the network, two network employees said.

A CNN executive confirmed that Mr. Dobbs will announce his resignation plans on his 7 p.m. program. His resignation is effective immediately; tonight’s program will be his last on CNN. His contract was not set to expire until the end of 2011.

Mr. Dobbs informed his staff members of his intentions in a meeting Wednesday afternoon. He did not immediately respond to a telephone call seeking comment.

Its not clear if he was forced to resign as a result of all the negative attention he was bringing CNN or if he left on his own.

Damn I wish I had CNN just for tonite.

Oh Wait So Lou Dobbs Lies, Again?

Last week I wrote about how Lou Dobbs’ twisted obsession with framing reality to fit his hateful agenda has been stepped up. Turns out that Dobbs’ characterization of the “attack” on his home was ::gasp:: not entirely accurate. I mean, hell even the NY Post, who usually is an apologist for racist behavior and attitudes even wrote it up. Our Unapologetic Mexican friend, Nezua, breaks it down.

Let’s clear a few things up shall we? Last time I checked there wasn’t a campaign supported by mainstream media distortions and government policies that encourage profiling that puts the lives of white male television pundits. There are no hoardes of Latinos going white pundit hunting. Pero Lou Dobbs, who yes is the target of multiple campaigns to get his hate speech off the airwaves, or at the very least off CNN, now is claiming that he and his wife were the targets in a shooting and who is to blame? Latinos of course.

And as if Dobbs’ claims aren’t ridiculous enough, Maricopa country Sheriff Joe Arpaio wants to jump on the “protect me from the scary Latinos” bandwagon too.

Stay tuned because there will be more to come as it seems that Dobbs and his friends want to make Latinos out to be the scariest thing out there this Halloween.

When America’s Voice raised enough cash to buy a spot for their Drop Dobbs ad in a Latino in America time slot, CNN felt that their loyalty to hateful Dobbs was worth more so they passed.

Knowing an opportunity when they see one, the Drop Dobbs ad will play tonight on MSNBC during the Rachel Maddow show at 9:00 pm EST. America’s Voice was able to purchase air time on local cable networks in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, and Washington, DC. So tune in and even if you can’t tune in because the ad isn’t running in your ‘hood (or if you don’t have cable like me), let the CNN head know that one thing you aren’t watching is his network, especially as long as Lou Dobbs is on.

loudobbsAfter a successful day of events across the country yesterday that coincided with the airing of Latino in America, seems like CNN’s Lou Dobbs realizes that it’s gonna take more than calling Latinos who call him out “fleas” to get rid of us. The producers of Lou Dobbs’ show emailed Roberto Lovato of BastaDobbs to be on the show. Roberto, never one to shy away from a good opportunity, said claro pero on one condition…
