la Mala sometimes sucks at this pop culture stuff. I didn’t watch half a minute of the Grammy Awards. Despite there being a completely separate Latin Grammy Awards competition and show, there were some Latino and Latin American musical winners on Sunday night.

So put your headphones on and listen….

Juntos Para Siempre
Bebo Valdés And Chucho Valdés

Miercoles Morning Musica : Los Tigres del Norte y su Granja

1 Jul 2009

tigres-del-norte Los Tigres Del Norte have just released their latest single “La Granja”, the first single from Los Tigres Del Norte’s forthcoming new album of the same name that is set for release on September 8th.

The song, featuring farm animal metaphors, is probably closer to Animal Farm than Old McDonald, pero the best part is that you can dance to it.

Listen to it here.

9 Feb 2009

081113-Juanes-hmed-716p.hmedium.jpgI didn’t watch the Grammy Awards last night. I must be getting old because I don’t know who half the people nominated were. Pero even before M.I.A shook her pregnant pansa up on the stage (mas on that later), Latinos got their awards in the untelevised portion of the show, porque really who cares about Latin music anyway? In fact, most Latin musicians didn’t even go to get their awards, not even Juanes, who is pictured getting an award last year. This yeah Gustavo Santaolalla accepted the award for Mejor Latin Pop Album. Juanes was kind enough to send a message though saying he dedicated the honor to those held hostage in the Colombian jungle.

Best Latin Rock Or Alternative Album went to Jaguares, whom I’ve never liked. I wanted Locos Por Juana to win.

The album is getting lots of play in my Mexican hood and is featured prominently in the local record shop.

Los Tigres Say No to Walls in Many Languages

12:16 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Immigration|Music · Comments Off

5 Mar 2007

Los%20Tigres%20del%20Norte.jpgGrammy winners Los Tigres del Norte have been known to lend their talents to a political cause before and now with a new single they are doing it again and not just in Spanish. According to today’s episode ofTelemundo’s Cotorreando, the norteño band will be releasing a song expressing their objection to the border wall between the United States and Mexico. And for those who continue to make immigration a Latino only issue, the song will be sung in Spanish, English, Arabic, French and German.
