green.jpgStarting today until December 3rd of this year, 50,000 people will be given the chance to become legal residents of the United States thanks to the annual visa lottery. This year’s lottery has a few changes compared to other years. This year people can only enter the lottery online at www.dvlottery.state.gov and those that win the lottery will be allowed to bring their legal spouses and single children under the age of 21. But not everyone who wants a part of the “American dream” is eligible. The visa program is specifically geared towards people from countries that have historically low migration numbers. That means that this year people from the following nations cannot enter the visa lottery: Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, Peru, Poland, Russia, South Korea, United Kingdom and Vietnam.
