Laura Bozzo fired again…then re-hired?

Earlier this year we told you how Laura Bozzo, Peru’s answer to Jerry Springer,
had sprung back from her firing from Telemundo by scoring a show on Spain’s Telecinco network. The show was set to launch this weekend, but alas, some bad — and mysterious — novedades:

Telecinco had everything in place to start airing its new show with polemic Peruvian host Laura Bozzo. However, it seems that at the last minute things have gone wrong and the network has decided to cancel the program after taping the pilot episode.

It seems that this is not just a simple delay, because according to Fórmulatv, the entire crew of the show has been fired. The show was supposed to air on Saturday afternoons…

Just when you thought you’d seen the last of Laura Bozzo, the controversial host of the now defunct Laura en America, she’s back and ready to reinvent herself on the Iberian peninsula. She had been bragging about her prospects of working in Mexico, but like any good malinchista (not sure what the Peruvian version of that would be) she’s opted for Spain instead.

Telecinco, one of Spain’s more popular networks (which boasts lots of other telebasura offerings) has snatched la Bozzo up for a new show.

Laura Bozzo became famous in Spain thanks to the “channel surfing” programs and to the Crónicas Marcianas show in which they featured scenes from the Peruvian talk show in which everyone ends up hitting each other. There was always a couple of “gorillas” [bouncers] who would try to keep the peace (or not) when the brawls would break out.

Now it seems that Telecinco has the intention of contracting her services, according to what Bozzo herself has told Peruvian press.

Latin America’s favorite trash TV host, Laura Bozzo, is ready to tell all about her controversial relationship with Fujimori crony Vladimiro Montesinos, but she won’t do it on this side of the world. Fearing further punishment (one must suppose), Laurita has chosen to speak the truth to a Spanish television network, and is in Madrid today (that’s her arriving in the photo) to do just that:

Bozzo told EFE that she will tell “unrevealed details” about her private life and “about the most difficult moments” that she went through after being linked to the corruption network of ex presidential advisor Vladimiro Montesinos, on the TV show “Dónde estás corazón?” on Antena 3.

I just hope she doesn’t reveal any sexual “details” as that mental picture might be too much for us to all handle. The show airs on Friday.

Even though Laura is still under house arrest, for some reason she can travel through Peru without a problem, and enter Europe on her Italian passport. This is a contrast to what happened when she tried to come to the U.S.

Apparently, Laurita is doing really well professionally in spite of everything that’s happened. According to El Periódico de Puerto Rico, she has a book deal (an autobiography called “Resistiré” — “I Will Survive”) and radio and TV deals in Mexico. And, according to this article, she wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to work in Spain.

Spain has so much trash on TV that I really don’t think there is room for Laura, but who knows.

For all of you who are on pins and needles with respect to what Laurita will reveal, I’ll be back with details as they become available.

Laura de America in Mexico

A few weeks ago we told you that Peruvian talk show host Laura Bozzo would once again be doing time — 4 years to be exact — for various charges brought against her by her country’s government. Now, Peru has allowed Laura to leave the country temporarily to travel to Mexico to negotiate a contract with the Televisa television network there, according to People en Español:

Bozzo was able to travel thanks to the permission granted to her by her country’s courts upon finding her innocent of the original charges of bribery for supposedly accepting 3 million dollars from ex President of Peru Alberto Fujimori.

Laura also stated that her “dream” is to stay and work in Mexico.

Meanwhile, U.S. officials have denied Laura permission to enter this country (Laura denied this), stating via a letter:

Any alien convicted of, or admits having committed, or who admits commiting acts which constitute the essential elements of a crime involving moral turpitude…is inadmissable.

Damn. So much for any dreams Laurita might have of running her carrito sanwichero business among other exiles in sunny Miami.

Laura gets 4 years, will sue Peru

On Monday, a Peruvian court found talk show host Laura Bozzo guilty of various corruption charges and sentenced her to four years in prison. La Bozzo, who already served a house arrest sentence of three years says she’s appealing and will sue the government of Peru before the Interamerican Civil Rights Court:

“There is a conspiracy against me”, she angrily told local television station Canal 9. “It’s been proven that the court reached an injust resolution, and that is why I am going to sue them before the Interamerican Court.” The talk show host is relying on a law of the Association of American States(OEA) according to which if there is a not a friendly agreement between two parties (in this case Bozzo and the Peruvian government) and it is found that a right has been violated, the Court can give a recommendation.”

According to People en Español, while Laura won’t actually be imprisoned, her sentence will force her to not leave her home without the prior authorization of a judge, and appear before a court every three months.

Laura moving to Televisa?

Is displaced Peruvian talk show host Laura Bozzo moving to Televisa after being booted from Telemundo? That’s what Marketing y Medios is reporting:

After six years as Telemundo’s leading lady of daytime talk, Laura Bozzo will step away from the NBC Universal-owned network and into daypart programming at competitor Grupo Televisa, according to sources. While not completely unexpected, Bozzo decided last week to stop production of TV talk show Laura en América in July, when her contract expires.

M y M also quoted an expert who said that Laura’s departure may actually be good for Telemundo’s business, as big advertisers had previously refused to run on the network due to the content of Bozzo’s shows.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5 years of polladas, berrinches, lloros and face-slapping drama, Laura Bozzo, the once-incarcerated host of “Laura en América” has been fired, according to El Mundo and EFE:

Peruvian television host Laura Bozzo has been fired by the Telemundo network after a five year working relationship due to “hard to meet expectations”, according to Peruvian press. Bozzo had declared that her contract ended by mutual agreement, but the press claims that Telemundo ended her aggressive talk show due to a decline in viewers and her approaching trial before Peruvian court on charges of corruption. Her talk show, which reached great popularity in Latin America in last few years distinguished itself by showing dramas in the lives of low-income people who, in many cases, accepted money to tell their stories and allowed themselves to be humiliated for money.

Now who will give all of those poor souls their carritos sangüicheros?

I guess la Bozzo had a reason to fear her Mexican counterpart, since, as far as I know, la Señora Leon still has a job. RIP, “Laura en América”, it was fun while it lasted.

laurabozzopanorama_g%20copy.jpg I pretty much coughed up my lunch when I saw that Laura León (of Mexican telenovela “Dos Mujeres, un Camino” fame) was hosting a trashy talk show almost identical to Laura Bozzo’s (the only talk show host in the history of TV to broadcast while under house arrest) “Laura”, cumbia and all. What was even more shocking is that Laura (Leon) has up and moved to Lima to do the show.

How does a Mexican telenovela actress conquer the Peruvian daytime talk show market? Will she know what a pollada is?

I remember thinking “Damn, I bet Laura Bozzo is pissed that La Tesorito is biting her style — in her own country!” I guess I’m a psychic (or just too in tune with the thinking of Peruvian talk show abogadas) because I was right. Throw down, ladies!
