It Wasn’t the Latin Grammy Awards but Latinos Were Still Awarded

070211_shakira_03.jpgIn November of last year I was able to watch the 7th Annual Latin Grammy Awards live and in person in Madison Square Garden. Last night’s 49th Annual Grammy Awards in the Los Angeles Convention Center, was watched in the comfort of my bedroom. Shakira, who swept the Latin Grammy awards, didn’t win last night (in the category of best pop collaboration) but she performed Hips Don’t Lie(yes, that song again) looking golden, literally and figuratively.
Christina Aguilera‘s Ain’t no other man won Best Female Pop Song.

Many of the Grammy winners in Latin music last night were also winners of Latin Grammy Awards in November of last year.

Latin%20Grammy%20pre%20004.jpgI’m reporting live from inside Madison Square Garden where the 7th Annual Latin Grammy Awards are set to take place later. As you can see from the picture, crowds have already begun to line up outside by the green carpet to catch a fleeting glimpse of their favorite celeb. What they may or may not know is that many of the celebs are inside already doing a final run through. In fact I’m watching Kate Del Castillo on stage now, complete with fake applause. La India just got on stage to practice, wearing a grey fur coat and sunglasses. She’s doing a salsa tribute singing clasics. Shortly the Pre-Telecast Awards will be given out, including catagories like Best Merengue Album and Best Ranchero Album.

smalldress.jpgVivirLatino is off to check into the 7th Annual Latin Grammy Awards. The Spanish language coverage begins on Univision tonite at 7 pm live from the green carpet, but our Spanglish language coverage begins right here as soon as la Mala gets her computer setup. So be sure to check in……

In the meantime pick your faves and make your predictions of who will win, who will lose, and of course who just shouldn’t have worn that dress.

ricky.jpgAy Ricky. How I remember him when he was just an adolescent dancing in unison with other boys, waiting for his facial hair to grow in. Now look at him. Tonight Ricky Martin is being honored as The 2006 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year. Calle 13, Miguel Bosé, Don Omar,Juan Luis Guerra, Ludacris, Ednita Nazario, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira all are at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers to pay tribute and recognize Ricky’s accomplishments as a world-renowned entertainer, consummate performer and passionate humanitarian (not to mention hottie). Ricky will even perform.

The Latin Grammy Awards Finally Hit the Big Apple with Big Sponsors

7:55 am By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Events|Music|New York City · Comments Off

31 Oct 2006

Newapartment%20024.jpgThe area around Madison Square Garden was abuzz more than usual yesterday morning. Walking down 33rd Street at around 9 am, it became obvious that the 7th Annual Latin Grammy Awards had finally hit New York City. Stage crews with huge trailers were setting up. Security was tight and eyed everyone walking down the street making sure no one tried to sneak inside the event, after all this is the first time the awards honoring Latino telent is being held in the Big Apple. And since the Big Apple is home to yours truely, I have to be there and I don’t have to sneak in. Yesterday, la Mala officially picked up her press credentials (I’ll spare you the horrible picture on it ….for now) allowing me, and by default, you readers, access to one of the hottest Spanish language accented events.
