Saturday night I settled in my air-conditioned apartment to watch the hot, amazing Julieta Venegas Unplugged on MTV Tr3s. After watching Julieta do her thing with la Mala Rodriguez, Marisa Monte, and Gustavo Santaolalla I fell more in love with her than I was back in the day when she first came out onto the musica scene.

I must have the CD & DVD release Of Julieta Venegas: MTV Unplugged on June 17th. and I cannot wait to see her live in Central Park on Saturday, July 12th.

julieta_unplugged.pngOne of the acts I’m most excited to see and hear at the LAMC is Julieta Venegas. The accordion and guitar wielding Mexicana is releasing her Unplugged CD and DVD on June 17th. From the press release:

LAMC08.pngI am so psyched! I’ve been wanting to attend the Latin Alternative Music Conference since it started and this year VivirLatino will be there. The 9th annual LAMC features concerts with some of my favorite Latino musical acts including Julieta Venegas, Miranda!, Emmanuel Horvilleur from Illya Kuryaki & the Valderramas, Alex*Cuba and Forro in the Dark. There are panels, including a panel on blogging and the Latin alternative scene that I will definitely be at.

You can go too! Log onto http://www.latinalternative.com/ and register to catch what promises to be some of the best music and music talk this verano.

Part of the ongoing NOW series, this latest edition includes songs by hitmakers such as Juanes, Marc Anthony, Julieta Venegas, RBD, Luis Fonsi and La Oreja De Van Gogh.

NOW Latino 2 also includes all the biggest Reggaeton hits by Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Tito El Bambino, RKM Y Ken-Y, Wisin Y Yandel and the white hot Calle 13!

Vivirlatino has 5 CDs to give to our readers. If you are among the first 5 readers who can tell us the full name of Juanes and the full names of 2 members of RBD, the CD is yours.

Hurry and send us your answer via the VL contact form.

Good luck!

So unfortunately , La Mala was live at the 7th Annual Latin Grammy Awards but you all couldn’t be because of the ahem, less than helpful tech team at MSG couldn’t hook me up online.

Gustavo.jpgDuring the pre-telecast awards, el Rock Latino ruled.
Gustavo Cerati, won two awards, Best Rock Solo Vocal Album and Best Rock Song for Crimen. For those like me, who have been following Cerati from his Soda Stereo days, will be disappointed to hear that Soda Stereo has no plans in the near future to reunite but that it’s never out of the question.

Julieta%20Venegas.jpgThe darling of rock Mexicana Julieta Venegas won Best Alternative Music Album for Limon y Sal.

Best%20tropical.jpgTropical music is such a huge genre, including salsa and merengue, that all its facets couldn’t fit in the telecast alone so some awards were given in the pre-telecast. Included was best Traditional Tropical Album which went to Andy Montanez. He dedicated the award to his wife and Puerto Rico, saying that his win was a dream come true.

521804.jpgMexico City’s Palacio de los Deportes was the site of the MTV Latin Music Awards last night, which held more than a few surprises for viewers. The biggest: British pop star Robbie Williams showed the world his butt:

Williams, who took home the award for best international pop artist last night, mooned the crowd of around 10,000 people during his performance of his song “Rock DJ.”

Unfortunately, since we don’t have MTV TR3S and therefore weren’t able to see the awards, you’ll have to settle for just a rundown of winners.

Best Solo Artist:
Julieta Venegas
Best Group or Duet: Panda
Best Pop Artist: Kudai
Best Rock Artist: Mana
Best Alternative Artist: Panda
Best Pop Artist – International: Robbie Williams
Best Rock Artist – International: My Chemical Romance
Best New Artist – International: James Blunt
Best New Artist – North: Allison
Best New Artist – Central: Fonseca
Best New Artist – South: Axel
Best Artist – Central: Juanes
Best Artist – South: Gustavo Cerati
Breakthrough Artist: Panda
Promising Artist: Calle 13
MTV Tr3s Viewer’s Choice Award: Don Omar
Song of the Year: Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean – “Hips Don’t Lie”
Video of the Year: Mana – “Labios Compartidos”
Artist of the Year: Daddy Yankee
MTV Legend Award: Mana

Surprising: Julieta Venegas was nominated for six awards but received only one, the one I expected to be bestowed upon Shakira.

Not surprising: Shakira’s Hips Don’t Lie as Song of the Year
