The Grammy Awards You Didn’t See : Latin Music Awards

081113-Juanes-hmed-716p.hmedium.jpgI didn’t watch the Grammy Awards last night. I must be getting old because I don’t know who half the people nominated were. Pero even before M.I.A shook her pregnant pansa up on the stage (mas on that later), Latinos got their awards in the untelevised portion of the show, porque really who cares about Latin music anyway? In fact, most Latin musicians didn’t even go to get their awards, not even Juanes, who is pictured getting an award last year. This yeah Gustavo Santaolalla accepted the award for Mejor Latin Pop Album. Juanes was kind enough to send a message though saying he dedicated the honor to those held hostage in the Colombian jungle.

Best Latin Rock Or Alternative Album went to Jaguares, whom I’ve never liked. I wanted Locos Por Juana to win.

Martes Morning Musica : Juanes Odio por Amor

9 Sep 2008

juamailing.jpgJuanes doesn’t need our help when it comes to promotion, but his latest pop song, Amor Por Odio, released to radio yesterday, is a fun, catchy listen.

Recorded in August and set for inclusion in a planned special/expanded edition release of La Vida… es Un Ratico in November, “Odio por Amor” is an instantly classic Juanes anthem in the vein of “A Dios Le Pido”. The just released track finds Juanes giving a heartfelt appeal that we re-evaluate our approach to relationships – whether it be an exchange between lovers, family or even nations. The universal need for this simple but vital reminder to exchange love for hate is reinforced by Juanes, for the first time-ever, singing the song’s chorus in both Spanish and English – with the engaging refrain of “Es tiempo de cambiar / It’s time to change.”

Unfortunately, you have only two options in order to listen. You can sit with the radio on all day and wait or you can go to the Univision link.

The Paz Sin Fronteras concert, held yesterday on the Colombia-Venezuela border was a success
by all accounts. As you can see, all the participants, including organizer Juanes, fellow Colombian Carlos Vives, Alejandro Sanz, Miguel Bose, and Juan Luis Guerra, all entered wearing white (save a few accessories). And all participating artists performed separately and together- showing through action, that there can be unity with differences.

juanes.jpgThis Sunday, March 16th, on a bridge linking Venezuela and Colombia, music will join the two nations as well, following political drama between the South American countries. The Concierto Paz Sin Fronteras (The Peace Without Borders Concert)will feature Miguel Bosé, Juan Luis Guerra, Juanes, Ricardo Montaner, Alejandro Sanz, Juan Fernando Velasco And Carlos Vives. This concert on the Simón Bolívar Bridge Linking Cucuta, Colombia, and San Antonio del Tachira , Venezuela is Juanes brainchild, revealing his continuing interest and activism in human rights and peace issues in his country, Colombia and in Latin America as a whole.

Juanes Doesn’t Need New Year’s Resolutions

11:24 am By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Celebrities| Music · Comments Off

6 Dec 2007

image003.jpgThis is the year of Juanes. His song Me Enamora is the longest-running #1 Latin song of the year. It’s been on the top of the Billboard Hot Latin Songs Chart for three months. His album, La Vida es un Ratico, has sold a million copies and growing. He was nominated for “International Male Artist of the Year” At Frances’ NRJ Awards. He will perform at The Nobel Peace Prize Concert On December 11th and is currently the cover boy on the just-released issue of People en Español’s first ever all digital special issue.

With a year like that Juanes doesn’t need new year’s resolutions. He needs to just keep on doing what he’s been doing.

Juanes’ La Vida es un Ratico

23 Oct 2007

ShowLetter.jpgToday the much anticipated new Juanes album, La Vida es un Ratico, is out. The first single off the album, Me Enamora, has been breaking all sorts of records, holding a top spot for weeks in a row in the U.S. and at least 13 other countries.

I’ve been listening to the new album with my morning coffee and Juanes’ sound on la Vida is refreshing and different from his previous albums. I would say its not as dancy but rather shows a more mature Juanes with strong rock and even reggae influences. Juanes even gets political with a song about land mines, Minas Piedras, an issue he’s been working on for a while now.

My favorite song from the album, this morning Tres has me moving my hips.

So go and check out Juanes because la Vida really is un ratico no mas and shouldn’t we fill it with good music?

P.S.- Someone needs to tell iTunes that Juanes is not in the genre of reggaeton and hip hop.

Juanes immortalized in Colombia

capt.c2757fad241b4698b1d44e863bbaf8f8.colombia_juanes_statue_bog122.jpgA VL favorite, rockero and all-around good guy Juanes, has been immortalized in bronze in his hometown in Carolina del Principe, Colombia:

The 4,800 residents of Carolina del Principe greeted the 35-year-old Latin rock singer in the town’s central park, where the statue, which stands 6 feet, 5 inches tall, was erected. The statue shows Juanes with the long hair of his youth and a guitar slung over his back.

Guarded by heavily armed soldiers, Juanes pointed out places of his childhood and where he played with his heavy metal group before he left the band to pursue a solo career. Later he gave a free concert to the adoring crowd

Last year, Juanes’ compatriota Shakira also got her own statue in her hometown of Barranquilla.
