Now, I don’t know if McCain’s slip in the video below is a reflection that he is still stuck in the past, or if it reveals his plans for the future. Either way, it gives me pause…

While in English language debates, Obama will not mention the word immigration, his campaign has no problem dropping the word in Spanish language ads (apparently English speaking Latinos don’t care or aren’t interested in immigration?).

The following Spanish-language ad starts to air today in Colorado.

Presidential Debate Hangover 3: That One

10:06 am By Maegan La Mala · US Presidential Race 2008 · Comments Off

8 Oct 2008

One the biggest wtf moments of the debate last night between John McCain and Barack Obama, when instead of referring to Obama by his name, McCain called him “that one”.

Many are making a big deal about the scene played below, where John McCain rejected Obama’s hand and indicated he should shake Cindy McCain’s hand instead.

There was a point in the debate, I believe in the beginning, where the two candidates did shake hands. Pero you don’t expect McCain to touch “that one” twice do you?

I’m suffering from debate fatigue. I never expected much but as these go on, I become more tired of the same lines: of McCain saying my friend and his inability to look at Obama, refer to people of color speakers by name, including calling Obama “that one”, McCain saying that Iran is looking for a second holocaust, McCain making “red” or communism exmplified by Putin’s eyes Obama’s war mongering when referring to Pakistan.

The only clear “win” moment between the two as around health care. Obama stated that health care was a right while McCain cited it as a responsibility, making it seem that uninsured people, like me, make a choice in not having health care. That we don’t care when really the only choice I have is health care or food.

And the dirty word of the evening again, was immigration.

With Daddy Yankee’s endorsement of John McCain, suddenly there is a revival of mixing Rican politics with popular music and fashion especially with the rap/reggaetonero culture.

To counter Daddy Yankee’s move to the right with McCain, Fat Joe publicly is lending his support to Barack Obama right from his head down to his toes. fatjoeobama.jpg

And while we can debate the commodification of political figures on shoes and other gear, I wanna shift into the commodification of politics and politics show.

See Sarah Palin’s face as John McCain steps in to defend her from Katie Couric? That’s her saying ” Stop, you’re making my feminism look bad,”.

John%20McCain.jpgSeems like Republican presidential candidate John McCain is unsuspending his campaign and will be participating in tonight’s debate.

Not that anyone really believed the campaign was “suspended”.

So guess what VivirLatino will be doing this Friday night? We’ll be liveblogging the debate here and live tweeting it (Just request to follow @vivirlatino or @mamitamala).

So join us at 9 pmish (EST). We’ll bring the vino.

I’m not a David Letterman fan (I just don’t think he’s that funny) pero I love how he sets up John McCain and Sarah Palin and then proceeds to cut em down.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few hours, you know that the political world is abuzz about McCain’s plans to “suspend” his campaign so that he can ‘concentrate’ on the financial crisis.

John McCain is making another big gamble, announcing today that he will suspend his campaign and return to Washington to work on a solution to the financial crisis.
