JLo and Marc Anthony seem to be in the news a lot lately. Jen’s being accused of spouting Scientology, Marc’s being tailed by the tax man, and Jen’s got a new novela about her love life on tap for Spanish language television. Now, news that Marc and Jen are suing infamous gossip rag The National Enquirer in a European court for alleging that they were linked to drugs:
Paul Tweed, who specializes in bringing U.S.-based celebrities’ libel cases to British and Irish courts, told The Associated Press that actress-singer Lopez, 38, and singer Anthony, 37, were seeking “a six-figure settlement” from the Enquirer, based in Boca Raton, Fla., and its parent company, American Media Inc.Tweed said the lawsuit would be filed Tuesday in a Belfast court, and in subsequent days in courts in Dublin, London and Paris.

Thank you, People en Español, for warning me that I need to avoid Univisión like the plague during the primetime hour in the near future. It seems that JLo is planning a thinly-veiled autobiographical musical (!) miniseries (ay, too many things I hate wrapped into one) about the pressures of her fame, her breakup with Ben Affleck and subsequent falling into the arms of Mr. Skeletor.
The plot, says an executive from Nuyorican Films, will revolve around a singer named Sofía Márquez who is constantly in the public eye. She is involved in a scandal and escapes from her boyfriend to later reunite with a old friend from the past. The protagonist then discovers that the friend, a singer named Diego, has something special for her.

JLo used to be all about the bling, but now she’s all about the Thing. Her Thing, that is: hubby Marc Anthony. People en Español reports that Jen gushed to the Italian version of Vanity Fair about her amor this way:
“How do I love? With all of myself, passionately, without regard for the mistakes which one inevitably makes,” she says. “Let me put it as I have in my song: ‘Amo como una mujer, que vee en su hombre el paraìso (I love like a woman who sees heaven in her man).’ ”
I can’t for the life of me imagine getting past human superficialness to equate Marc with the pearly gates. He must really have something going for him, as both JLo and Dayanara have been whipped.
JLo also says that she isn’t into the shopping like she used to be, and is into more important things, like a harmonious career and personal life:
“We aren’t the type to separate our lives from our work,” Lopez, 37, tells Italian Vanity Fair. “It’s a synergy: music, cinema, the everyday things and most importantly, our love.”
More proof that JLo is becoming — yawn — a grownup.

I never thought I’d say this, but I feel really sorry for JLo. It seems that the superdiva was made to feel like Jenny from the Block at the screening of her new movie, Bordertown, at the Berlin International Film Festival. Several media are reporting that the movie was booed after the screening, with many audience members leaving before the end (the same thing actually happened to her Bordertown co-star, Antonio Banderas, during the screening of his film, but without the boos) and later had to field questions from a group of German reporters:
Jennifer Lopez defended her new movie, “Bordertown,” against a screaming group of reporters at the Berlin Film Festival today, who were not showing the Puerto Rican hottie the proverbial love. The critics were annoyed by her alleged “ludicrous plot turns and wooden dialogue” according to Deborah Cole in Berlin for the Agence France-Presse.

JLo will receive a human rights award from Amnesty International for her work in bringing attention to the strange disappearances and murders of hundreds of women in the Mexican border town of Ciudad Juarez:
Lopez will receive the Artists for Amnesty award Feb. 14 at the Berlin Film Festival from Nobel Peace Prize winner Jose Ramos-Horta. The film “Bordertown” will make its debut Feb. 15 at the festival. In “Bordertown,” Lopez plays an investigative journalist reporting on the serial killings of women in the border city of Juarez, Mexico. Directed by Gregory Nava, the film also stars Antonio Banderas and Martin Sheen.
Is it just me, or does JLo seem to have gotten more “deep” since she married Marc Anthony?

JLo was all giggles on Ellen DeGeneres‘ Super Bowl Special last Friday. Maybe it’s because of the caliente performance her and Mark were rehearsing for the pre-Super Bowl party in Miami (image above). Wow!
She revealed a lot of little tidbits about her life that her fans will be interested in (video after the jump). And just in case you can’t make out what’s said with all the maniacal laughing she’s doing (or just can’t stomach the video), JLo sayeth:
- Married life after three years “is getting easier”
- Her and Marc like to watch American Idol and Grey’s Anatomy
- She likes to have dinner with TomKat
- She wants to have one or two kids, mentions her three “stepkids”, one of which she says is an incredible singer “like her dad”

30 Jan 2007While the rest of us get freaked out by Scientology, Hollywood stars seem to find it as mundane as a loaf of Wonder Bread. JLo is no exception, as evidenced by her rushing to defend the religion. It turns out her dad is a Scientologist (!):
Though not a practitioner herself, Jennifer Lopez spoke up on behalf of Scientology – and revealed that her father, David Lopez, is a follower – during a weekend interview with a Miami TV station.“My dad has been a Scientologist for 20 years,” Lopez, 37, told South Florida’s NBC6. “It’s weird people want to paint it in a negative way.”
People reports that after the interview JLo’s rep was all “Jennifer is not a Scientologist, nor is she becoming a Scientologist.”
If it’s not “weird” than why the extra effort to point out that you are not “one of them” nor will you ever be?

Paryting got JLo in a mess of trouble back in the day. Maybe that’s why Jenny has decided to settle down and give up her crazy days, alongside her hubby Marc Anthony:
It was a choice,” Lopez, 36, said at the annual TV critics conference in Pasadena, Calif. on Thursday. “My life for me had become uncomfortable in the way that it was affecting my personal life and the people in it. So I decided I needed to take a look at that.“I realized there was a way to pull back from that. You don’t go out as much. You choose different places to go.”
One place she doesn’t go much these days is the dance floor. When asked if she cuts a rug with husband Marc Anthony, she said, “No we don’t. Were homebodies. We love music – obviously it’s a big part of our lives – but we’re not big club people. Not anymore. I’ve had my days.”
She seems to be less of a diva now. I wonder what Skeletor has done to make her so humble?

Latinos were in the house at this year’s Golden Globes. With the sweep of two important categories by ABC’s Ugly Betty, we had something to celebrate, but the tail end of the show brought triumphs and losses.
The big win: the last award of the night, Best Film Drama, went to Mexico’s Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for Babel:
“I swear I have my papers in order, governor, I swear,” “Babel” director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu of Mexico joked after California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger presented the best drama prize for the sweeping ensemble drama that takes place on three continents.
And while here at VL we frequently entertain the debate of whether we should consider people, things, issues, animals, etc. from Spain applicable to this site (yes, we know Spaniards are not Latinos), Mala and I are huge Almodóvar fans so we were rooting for Volver. Unfortunately, our movie lost. Boo-hoo. I wonder if Pedro knew and that’s why he said he had cold and skipped the awards all together?
Also, our beloved Penelope lost the Best Actress award, also for Volver. Hopefully Salma stuck around to keep her company without rubbing her nose in it.
Still, some Hollywood experts still have Pe pegged for a Best Actress nod at the Oscars.

JLo’s got a new TV dance show out, and so does ex hubby Cris Judd: coincidence? I think not:
Judd’s show is the reality competition “Dirty Dancing” on the Women’s Entertainment cable channel, airing Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST. Lopez is producing MTV’s “DanceLife,” about six aspiring dancers struggling to make it. The eight-episode series premieres Jan. 15 at 10:30 p.m.Judd’s show was inspired by the ’80s classic “Dirty Dancing,” starring
Jennifer Grey as rich girl Baby and Patrick Swayze as poor dance instructor Johnny. The premise: Eighteen women compete at a summer camp for a dance contract and the right to play Baby — to whichever professional ballroom dancer becomes Johnny — during the finale.
