EMERGENCY CALL TO ACTION

FRIDAY, AUGUST 22ND at 4:00 PM

JOIN US IN PROTESTS AT I.C.E. OFFICES ACROSS THE NATION !

In DETROIT: Joins us in front of the I.C.E. Office At East Jefferson Ave & Mount Elliot at 4:00PM

It is imperative that we send a message to I.C.E., President Bush and the upcoming Democratic Party Convention that there must be AN IMMEDIATE MORATORIUM ON ALL RAIDS, DEPORTATIONS, INCARCERATIONS AND SEPARATION OF FAMILIES.

On the defensive after congressional hearings that raked I.C.E. over the coals for the cruel, abusive and “Gestapo like” raids in IOWA, I.C.E. responded with a so-called “humanitarian” way to deport half a million people – AND THEIR U.S. CITIZEN FAMILIES!..

I.C.E. announced that it has OVER 100 TEAMS of agents working full time to seek out and arrest these 500,000 people who, even accord ing to I.C.E., have done nothing wrong except come to this country, accepted employment from U.S. companies, pay taxes and support their families.

Already we have witnessed I.C.E. agents waiting outside of schools and day care centers to track down parents. I.C.E. has enlisted police in some states to set up road blocks as people come to church on Sunday. I.C.E. agents are coming into our neighborhoods in the dead of night and knocking on our doors, terrorizing our children.

THIS MADNESS MUST STOP!

On Friday, August 22nd, we call on all organizations and concerned individuals, but especially LATINAS, to organize protests in front of your local I.C.E. office at 4 p.m. (at your local time) to demand an immediate moratorium

on raids, deportations, incarcerations and separations of families until comprehensive immigration reform is finally agreed on in the next Congress

Ask your delegates and especially members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to stand with you on Friday, August 22nd, in front of I.C.E.

We call on Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama to make clear their commitment to our community by joining in this call for an immediate moratorium on the convention floor!

ice.jpgPresident Bush’s administration has made it very clear that he’s gonna go out with a bang, not with a wimper when it comes to attacking immigrant communities.

Just yesterday there was a report of another raid by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), this time in Ashville, North Carolina.

Federal officials have taken nearly 60 employees of an
Asheville company into custody as part of an operation to arrest suspected
illegal immigrants.

The 57 people are employees of Mills Manufacturing Corporation, a government
contractor that makes parachutes for the U.S. military.

U.S.Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Ivan L. Ortiz-Delgado said
that arrests are part of a targeted investigation.

Ortiz-Delgado said that Mills Manufacturing is not a target of the
investigation and has been fully cooperative. The 59 workers who have been
detained are out of a total company workforce of 160, Ortiz-Delgado said.

In all the case so far, the workers detained used fraudulent documents, ICE
officials said.

Most of the people detained are from Mexico, but others are from Guatemala,
Ecuador, Honduras and El Salvador.

About half of the people detained were released for humanitarian reasons,
ICE said. Those reason include child care and medical situations.

The rest are being held at the Henderson County Detention Center. The county
has a an agreement with ICE to process and hold people accused of
immigration violations.

While President Bush is busy talking about no child being left behind, his government is fine with leaving behind promising young people, by deporting them.

Arthur Mkoyan’s 4.0 grade-point average has made him a valedictorian at Bullard High School in Fresno and qualified him to enter one of the state’s top universities.
But while his classmates look forward to dorm food and college courses this fall, Arthur Mkoyan may not make it.
He is being deported.
Arthur, 17, and his mother have been ordered out of the country. By late June, they may be headed to Armenia.
Arthur hasn’t seen Armenia since he was 2, and he doesn’t want to return. The thin, rather shy teenager doesn’t speak Armenian and barely understands the language when it’s spoken to him.
“Hopefully, I can somehow stay here and continue my studies here,” he said. “It would be hard if I go back.”
The family fled from the old Soviet Union and has been seeking asylum since 1992. The appeals ran out this year.

ice.jpgYesterday I wrote about how ICE has upped it’s antics by terrorizing schoolchildren and their parents in the Bay Area.

Please call and write to protest these actions.

On the grassroots level, if you see ICE hanging around, let your neighbors know. Start a phone tree, text messaging system. If you can document ICE presence by taking photos and video (generally, they don’t like to be watched).

ice.jpgImmigration and Customs Enforcement, better known as ICE, has upped it’s scare tactics and now is resorting to terrorizing families by waiting outside elementary schools. Yesterday afternoon ICE agents parked outside Stonehurst Elementary School in Oakland, California. The agents did not attempt to enter the school but rather lay in wait, like hunters. No arrests have been reported.

There have been other cases of ICE targeting parents through their children. Remember the case of the girls who were deported for cutting school?

This is completely unacceptable. As a parent with a child in public school, I should not be afraid of taking my child to school or picking her up because of ICE agents menacingly parked outside. Personally I am trying to find out what the NYC Department of Education policy is regarding ICE. I urge people to do the same.

800px-US_Immigration_and_Customs_Enforcement_SWAT.jpgWell it’s winter, of course there is ice in Connecticut but that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who have just been given the green light to train Danbury police.

A Common Council committee of the whole voted 19-2 Monday to recommend Police Chief Al Baker be given the authorization to enter into an agreement that would have some officers receive training from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
