Hillary Wins Penn But Obama Still Leads

8:41 am By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · US Presidential Race 2008 · Comments Off

23 Apr 2008

art.clinton.pa.afp.gi.jpgSo this morning I woke up and realized it wasn’t a dream. Hillary Clinton won the Pennsylvania Democratic primary by about 10 points with 99% of the precincts reporting.
The BBC is giving Hillary a 9 point lead, taking away that double digit victory.
This means that she gets the majority of Dem delegates from that state but not enough to beat out Obama’s delegate lead or his popular vote lead.

According to CNN’s latest count, Obama leads in the delegate count — 1,694 to 1,556.

This means that this seemingly never ending race goes on, onto the May 6 contests in North Carolina and Indiana.

clinton-longoria.jpgHillary Clinton has quite a few Latino celebs in her corner. Some of the Latinos that have thrown their star power behind the former first lady include Eva Longoria, Ugly Betty (well America Ferrara)has been quoted as saying:

“I truly believe that Hillary Clinton can turn this country around. I’m confident that she will be a champion for young women and men across the country,”

Even some Latino bloggers are supporting Hillary, like Perez Hilton.

And who is VivirLatino endorsing?

78c806ca-a5a2-44f8-8e85-175a48bb7786.jpgI seriously couldn’t stomach the whole debate last night. I think I lost it when ABC played the video of the woman who asked if Barack Obama believes in the American flag. What does that question mean? Like does the flag exist? Was that a philosophical question, like if a flag waves in the wind but no one sees it, does it exist? Or maybe she meant if Obama believed in the flag like kids believe in Santa, the Easter bunny, and the tooth fairy (if I put an American flag pin under my pillow will the flag fairy leave me justice?).
Of course I know that despite the woman saying she wasn’t questioning Obama’s patriotism, she was. After all wearing a flag pin while killing soldiers and civilians in Iraq is uber-patriotic.

r3088188116.jpgWhile Colombian President Alvaro Uribe slammed presidential wannabe Barack Obama for his public opposition to the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement, it seems he has no friend in Hillary Clinton on the issue either.

The presidential campaign of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said Tuesday that her husband, the former president, supports a free trade agreement with Colombia that she strenuously opposes.

Hillary has sided with the Uribe government before, most recently regarding Colombia’s so-called defensive actions in Ecuador.

Bill Richardson Defends His Endorsement of Obama

4:00 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · US Presidential Race 2008 · Comments Off

3 Apr 2008

richardson.jpgMe da pena. Really, I feel bad that Bill Richardson, Governor of New Mexico and former presidential candidate, has to defend his decision to endorse Barack Obama. But after Dem pundit and Clinton pal, James Carville decided to get all biblical and call Richardson a “Judas” for not endorsing Hillary Clinton, defend himself Richardson did, and quite publicly via a Washington Post opinion piece.

More than anything, to repair the damage done at home and abroad, we must unite as a country. I endorsed Sen. Obama because I believe he has the judgment, temperament and background to bridge our divisions as a nation and make America strong at home and respected in the world again.

This was a difficult, even painful, decision. My affection and respect for the Clintons run deep. I do indeed owe President Clinton for the extraordinary opportunities he gave me to serve him and this country. And nobody worked harder for him or served him more loyally, during some very difficult times, than I did.

Carville and others say that I owe President Clinton’s wife my endorsement because he gave me two jobs. Would someone who worked for Carville then owe his wife, Mary Matalin, similar loyalty in her professional pursuits? Do the people now attacking me recall that I ran for president, albeit unsuccessfully, against Sen. Clinton? Was that also an act of disloyalty?

This is a classic case of politicians trying to punish a politico of color for not “knowing his place”.

Read Richardson’s entire explanation.

21endorse2.190.jpgThe Latino president that almost was, Bill Richardson, has thrown his support behind Barack Obama. The Governor of New Mexico will make an official announcement today at a campaign event in Oregon.

Richardson had been courted aggressively by the Hillary Clinton camp, even using Bill Clinton, Richardson’s former boss when he was energy secretary. I can hear the Clinton disappointment now.

Bill Clinton : Bill, amigo. I thought we had a deal? We watched the Superbowl together!
Bill Richardson: Bill, you act like we were watching futbol futbol. It was just American football.

Ok that conversation didn’t really happen but listen to what Richardson did say in a statement about the endorsement…
