If there is one thing Mala loves its a talented, smart, poltical Latino and Gael Garcia Bernal is on the top of my love/lust list. The 27 year old Mexican actor graces the cover of the Spring/Summer issue of Another Man magazine. Inside the magazine Gael talks about going against the grain of what many Latino actors are doing, purposely avoiding Hollywood. Taking that road less travelled hasn’t hurt him one bit. Gael says:
A film with no point of view is such a waste of money. So much money is spent on films. Oh man, spend that money somewhere else!
I will happily spend money to grab up this magazine and also cheerfully drop a ten dollar bill to see Gael on screen.

Mexican actor Gael García Bernal is branching out. In December, Mala reported that in addition to his acting, Gael was a spokesperson for the international humanitarian organization Oxfam. Now it seems that the muli-faceted Gael will show yet another of his faces — that of director:
Mexican actor García Bernal will begin shooting this week on his first film as a director, in which he will also act as protagonist.
The project was born a few months back as a made for TV movie , but with time Gael managed to get financing to turn it into a feature film.
…The film is about a group of young people, children of rich parents, who think they know everything and have everything, but who after a journey discover they have nothing.
Sounds intriguing, and a break from typical Mexican film plots of late. Best of luck, Gael!

Gael Garcia Bernal is much more than a pretty face and a talented actor, he is using his fame to speak out about causes that he cares about and feels strongly about. Today in Hong Kong, Garcia Bernal joined on a fair trade campaign run by the humanitarian aid organization Oxfam. Specifically the 27 year old actor spoke about the negative impact genetically modified corn exported from the U.S. under NAFTA was having on the agricultural economies of countries like his own native Mexico.
