Spain was rocked today by the news of the death of music legend Rocío Jurado. This news comes roughly a month after the death of another famed Spanish performer, Rocío Durcal:
Spain is mourning the death of one of its most celebrated performers.Singer and actress Rocio Jurado has died at the age of 61 from cancer. She last appeared on television in January this year, before heading off to Houston in Texas for specialist treatment.
Her family and friends accompanied the singer’s coffin to a Madrid cultural centre where admirers will have a chance to say farewell.
One woman said: “A page in our history has closed and I don’t know if it’ll be opened up again by someone else. We came to say goodbye.”
Born Maria del Rocio Trinidad Mohedano Jurado, Rocío was known for her copla work and for her prowess in this genre was nicknamed “La más grande”.
