Well, he didn’t make VL’s Most Influential Latino list, but Ricky Martin is getting props anyway. The Latin Recording Academy is honoring Ricky as its “Person of the Year” for being a great “entertainer and humanitarian:
“The 34-year-old Puerto Rican pop star will receive the honor at a dinner and concert in New York City on Nov. 1. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will benefit Martin’s charitable efforts.“His musical accomplishments are matched by his endeavors as an advocate for the welfare of children around the world,” Latin Recording Academy President Gabriel Abaroa said in a statement Thursday. “It is a great pleasure to honor this man of limitless talent, passion and sense of caring.”
Among other charitable endeavours, Ricky is involved in campaigns to combat internet predators and sex trafficking of children.

Ricardo León Peña-Villa is known to many simply as Poeta, and even though his latest book, Loisaida: Historias del Frío, is filled with short stories and not poems, his verse carries a rhythm that more than earns him the title. On Friday, December 9, at the Lectorum bookstore in Manhattan, the book containing 24 stories was officially presented in the U.S. The stories take readers from la Habana, to Umbrella House, occupied by squatters in the Lower East Side (a movement which the Poeta was a part of and the place the story collection is named for), to the country of his birth Colombia.
