Rent_sign_blank_small.jpgThe California city of Escondido is following the lead of other cities across the country by passing its own laws targetting the undocumented immigrant community. On Wednesday night the City Council of Escondido voted 3-2 in favor of an ordinance that requires landlords to submit documentation of their tenants’ immigration status to the city, which would then be passed on to the federal government for verification. If renters are found to be undocumented landlords would have 10 days to evict the tenants or risk losing their licenses.

Whatever happened to the human right of having a place to live. I really hope that some legal organization will challenge this ordinance because what will happen is that landlords will just not rent to Latinos at all, not wanting to deal with the hassle of proving residency status, making this law essentially racist.
