Eva Longoria Desperate not to be Typecast

4:24 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Chismes| Movies · Comments Off

25 Aug 2006

20060508-eva.jpgLa latina ama de casa, Ms. Eva Longoria doesn’t want to be seen as just another sex hungry greedy stereotype, like her character on Desperate Housewives, Gabriela Solis. Her latest role is as a special agent in the upcoming film, The Sentinel. But it seems that Hollywood has other plans.

She explained: “There is a shot of my butt in a tight skirt as I walk in the office. So my boss tells me to dress differently. It is all very important. If the guy never checked out my butt you would never understand why I was being a b***h to him in the second scene.”

Yes Eva we’re sure the tight shot of your tight ass was key to the plot and chracter development.

Wisteria Lane goes south

5:49 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Argentina| Colombia| TV| World · 3 Comments

amas_de_casa_250.jpgThe title of this post doesn’t refer to the fact that Desperate Housewives, while a huge hit in its first season, is being snubbed by viewers in its second. It refers to the fact that while American viewers might see the show as a snoozefest, not so the case with viewers in Latin American countries, such as Argentina.

The New York Times reported yesterday that as a result of the show’s success in Latin America (it’s broadcast on the Sony Channel with Spanish subtitles), Latin American producers are purchasing the rights to recreate the show in localized versions for their countries, all to be called “Amas de casa desesperadas”.

Three versions of the series are under way, each tailored to a different area of Latin America. And three additional productions are a possibility, said Mr. Barbosa and executives here, depending on the outcome of discussions with networks in Mexico, Venezuela and Chile. First off the ground is the Argentine version, which will also be shown in neighboring countries including Uruguay and Paraguay and is scheduled to go on the air in six months or so. After that comes a production in Portuguese for Brazil and a second Spanish-language version made for Colombia and Ecuador.

I am skeptical. The most interesting thing about this article to me was the following:

…in the Colombian version of the series, the nouveau riche couple Carlos and Gabrielle Solis will be Ecuadoreans. “They are the ethnic couple on the block, the equivalent of Hispanics in that society,” Mr. Barbosa said.

I’ll hold my tongue, but your thoughts on that are certainly welcome.

If Eva Longoria is Not Bitter – Why Does She Talk About It?

10:56 am By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Celebrities| Chismes| Fashion| Movies| TV · Comments Off

1 Aug 2006

eva-longoria.jpgHave you vere had a friend who says he/she isn’t bitter about something but can’t shut up about that something? Makes you think that maybe they really are bitter, no? Eva Longoria is not our friend but if the reports from Hollywood Rag are true then she is the most bitter non-bitter person I’ve read about.

She said: “There is that one fashion designer who said, ‘We’re not dressing her,’ because he thought I was such a nobody. “When he sends clothes for free now, I send them right back.” She said in an interview with Playboy magazine: “I was turned down for the starring role in ‘Dark Angel’ – which went to Jessica Alba. And I was snubbed for the lead in ‘Spanglish’. I auditioned to be one of the girls who escorted the wrestlers on ‘Battle Dome’ and didn’t get it and I was fired
from ‘The Young and the Restless.’ But I’m not bitter at all.”

Eva Longoria is Cheap (and hanging out with Mario Lopez)

longoria.eva.jpgIt’s like a car wreck, those stories about celebs behaving badly and regardless if you buy them or not, they certainly are fun to imagine. Defamer is reporting that Eva Longoria was chilling at a bar with Saved by the Bell’s Mario Lopez (remember him- I think the last thing he did was Pet Star) and Eva was not to happy she had to ::gasp:: pay the bill. According to the report:

Eva was sullen and refused to talk with anyone. When the waitress gave her a $17 bill, she handed over a hundred dollar bill and when the waitress brought back her change, Eva grabbed her changed, snipped at the waitress that “Celebrities should be comped!” and stalked out without even leaving a tip.

True or not, shouldn’t at the very least Mario payed?

eva-longoria.jpgEva Longoria, everyone’s favorite ama de casa is getting political. She plans to broach the controversial topics of immigration and slavery in a new documentary to be produced by Eva herself:

Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria is tackling America’s controversial immigration issues head on in a new film after learning that fellow Latinos are being roped into slavery.

The actress accepts she has become a role model for the Latin community and she wants to affect change in the lives of immigrants living well below the poverty line in the US.

She says: “I work a lot with the National Council of La Raza, which is the largest Latino civil rights organisation in the country and I work a lot with the United Farm Workers.

“I’ve been in the fields with these people and I’ve tried to experience a day in the life of these people. I’m producing a documentary on the labour workers.”

Say what you will about a rich Hollywood star “spending the day” with laborers, the fact is Eva seems to be standing up (like other celebs) for the oppressed, voiceless immigrant population whose labor keeps this country’s economy chugging along. Bravo, Eva!

Eva Longoria Kills Bunnies (well she used to anyway)

12:07 pm By Maegan La Mala · Celebrities| Chismes · Comments Off

16 Mar 2006

Eva.jpg Eva Longoria used to hunt, and I’m not talking underage gardeners like her Desperate Houswives character Gabriela Solis. As a child, Eva’s papi used to take her hunting for deer, quail, snakes, pigs and bunnies, the first kill she ever made. Eva said :

I remember the first thing I killed was a little bunny. I cried for days and days. think I was eight at the time.

Not Your Primetime Desperate Housewives

amas.jpg There was a very interesting article in Sunday’s New York Times about the mujeres that provide the dubbed Spanish voices for ABC’s hit show Desperate Housewives. These mujeres who look like real mujeres, not Hollywood starlets who look like they could use some arroz con pollo , make $12-$25 an hour so that the happenings of Wisteria Lane can be understood not just in households of Latin America but also in Spanish language homes here in the U.S. via SAP. According to the article:

Last fall ABC announced it would dub top-rated shows like “Desperate Housewives” and “Lost” to attract the growing audience in the United States of Spanish-language networks like Univision. The Spanish translation of these network hits is heard through the Secondary Audio Program option on television sets, which is available to more than 85 percent of American households.

per-003861.jpgMen everywhere will rejoice upon the news that the Sofia Vergara wil return to the small screen for their viewing pleasure. You thought you had lost her with the cancellation of her show, Hot Properties, but Sofia’s set to come back (and contrary to her last venture) on a hit show:

Todos tenemos derecho a una segunda oportunidad y aunque con sus Propiedades calientes (Hot Properties) en la televisión estadounidense no pudo lograr el éxito esperado, Sofía Vergara intentará demostrar esta vez que además de su singular belleza, también tiene mucho talento y al parecer ahora formará parte de la serie Desperate Housewives de la cadena ABC.

Eva.jpg Desperate Housewife isn’t so desperate anymore, at least nor for an orgasm. According to the Texican star, her sex life was lacking until she had a Brazilian bikini wax. I don’t know what Ms. Longoria was doing before her hair removal miracle but if she needed that to get her groove on in bed, bueno, more power to her.

Maria Conchita.jpg Yesterday Cotorreando, Telemundo’s bochinche show, reported that Maria Conchita Alonso will be appearing in an upcoming episode of the ABC television hit Desperate Housewives . Maria Conchita will be playing the mother of Gabriela Solis, played by Eva Longoria.
