Consumer group comes down on Penelope’s lashes

eyelashpenelope.jpgEver wonder how celebs get their eyelashes to look so long and luscious? The answer isn’t mascara, but fake lashes — the kind that is causing a stir in Spain, after consumers complained to the national consumer protection agency about Penelope Cruz’s deceitful lashes:

Cosmetics company L’OrĂ©al has modified its Telescopic Mascara commercial featuring Penelope Cruz and has admitted that [the lashes] are fake, according to a press release distributed by FACUA [Spain's Federation of Consumers in Action].

In the commercial, the actress appears on a balcony with a telescope and says, “Imagine, lashes that can reach the stars,” and now in the spot being broadcast in Spain, at the bottom of the screen there will be a message that says “commercial done with lash inserts,” it adds.

Back in July, the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority said that the ad was misleading, though L’Oreal claimed that the use of fake lashes was a standard practice. Since then, FACUA has been advocating for L’Oreal to add a disclaimer to the commercial stating that Pe’s lashes were a fake-out.
