20 Oct 2008So it only took the marvelously racist Pat Buchanan about three minutes to completly ignore an entire speech given by Colin Powell in which he clearly asserts the reasons why he endorses Barack Obama for president.
Pat knows better. He knows the *real* reason. The secret reason. The reason Powell was evidently to puss to say out loud or something.
Here’s a clue: It had something to do with Obama and Powell both being ((whisper)) black.
It’s wonderful that you can always count on Buchanan to be the voice of Joe Six Pack. And it is amusing to me to see Chris Matthews look like he wants to throw up.
Oh, and look at what happens when it’s asserted that white people vote for white people because they’re white.

20 Oct 2008Yesterday, Republican former Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama for president, a move which secured him a spot in an Obama White House. Powell said:
“We’ve got two individuals — either one of them could be a good president. But which is the president that we need now — which is the individual that serves the needs of the nation for the next period of time.. not just continue the policies we have been following in recent years. And I come to the conclusion to support Barack Obama because of his ability to inspire, because of the INCLUSIVE nature of his campaign, because he is reaching out all across America, because of who he is and his rhetorical abilities — and you have to take that into account — as well as his substance — he has both style and substance, he has met the standard of being a successful president, being an exceptional president.”
Claro, the fact that Powell is an important black man endorsing another important black man means conspiracy to some people.
Colin Powell : Guantanamo Bay Shut it Down!

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell doesn’t want to shut down the entire US military base in “enemy” Cuba, just the messy military prison in Guantanamo Bay. On television yesterday, Powell said the jail, known for its torture and holding of individuals on no charges, should close “not tomorrow but this afternoon”. And what of the prisoners there now? Powell said they should be transferred to prisons in the U.S. He also called for the abolition of the military tribunal system, saying terror suspects should face trial under existing US federal laws. Currently there are about 380 detainees aka “enemy combatants” in Guantanamo Bay prison, not subject to normal US court rules.

Powell: no perfect wall

Speaking at a conference in Mexico City, former Secretary of State Colin Powell recognized that building a wall between Mexico and the United States is not the answer to the nation’s immigration “problem”:
“The Berlin Wall did not work perfectly and the wall that the Israelis are putting up is not going to work perfectly,” Powell said. “So, a wall alone is not the answer.”
The Berlin Wall didn’t work “perfectly”? The wall their building in Israel won’t work “perfectly”? Is he kidding? These walls are symbols of oppression, not a less-than-perfect experiment.
Powell also said that immigrants should be given the chance to earn status:
He said U.S. authorities should let many of the estimated 12 million undocumented migrants already in America earn some form of legal status through expanded temporary-worker programs.“We have to find a way for them to live in dignity and not in fear,” he said.
