Slightly random: Disney actress Selena Gomez wants you to know about the stray dog situation in Puerto Rico:

And that “it’s pretty neat to be Mexican”. Take that, Jessica Alba.

Ok, yes, it’s a far stretch–a Portuguese water dog is not a “Latino dog” (although I like the sounds of that–Latino dog!), but hell, Portugal colonized enough South American countries, I guess we can make a spot for their damn dogs, yes?

Anyway, here’s a picture of the type of dog breed that the Obama family has decided to adopt:

pwaterdog

Sorta an ugly mutt, if I do say so myself. And apparently all the dog people are nervous because these dogs are pretty mischievous and Oh Nos can the Obama fam handle a mischievous dog???

“They’re really good at opening refrigerators and cabinets and, so, thank God the White House has staff to take care of things,” said Janet Boyd, an “Obama fan” from Snohomish, Wash., who owns three Portuguese water dogs and is active in the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America. “I don’t think they’re an easy dog and that’s why I have a little hesitation – and hope for the best.”

Because clearly a family that took well over five months of time to research and decide are going into this commitment with their blinders on, right? /snark.

Anyway, what do VLatin@s think? Can the Obamas handle this dog? Do you think it’s an ugly mutt like I do? Talk, talk! :-)

826132.jpgIn a country known for its fine leather, an awareness campaign around saying no to the purchase and use of animal skins may or may not go over well in Argentina. But some Argentine celebs are uniting their voices in a campaign to show exactly what becomes of the animal that is killed for your latest fashion statement. The poster above, featuring actress, Marcela Kloosterboer is just one of the shocking images that the non-profit organization AnimaNaturalis has posted all around Buenos Aires.

Jay Hernández loves his dog, hates fur

200-jayhernandezad.jpgUp-and-coming Latino actor Jay Hernández loves his dog, his cat and all animals; and he’s joined animal rights group PETA for an ad campaign to discourage the use of fur for clothing:

Jay Hernandez would never wear his dog—or anyone else’s dog, for that matter—and he doesn’t think you should either. In fact, the Hostel star feels so strongly about fur that he and his canine compadre, Donner, took time out of their busy movie-star schedules to pose for the latest “If You Wouldn’t Wear Your Dog, Please Don’t Wear Any Fur …” ad.

Jay, who will next be seen on the big screen in Oliver Stone’s upcoming movie, World Trade Center, looks sexy and striking in our new anti-fur campaign.

Other famous Latino “fur foes” (celeb endorsers of PETA) include Fernanda Tavares, Vanessa Olivarez and pseudoLatino Joaquin Phoenix.
