macheteros1.jpgThe Boricua Popular Army aka los Macheteros have identified John Roeper as an FBI agent who participated in the assassination of Puerto Rican independence fighter Filiberto Ojeda Rios in 2005. From their statement:

“We in the EPB–The Macheteros, in turn, have been able to identify several of the mercenaries who participated in the assassination of our commander. Our intelligence division has been able to do so. Today we publish the name of John Roeper. In the next communiqués, we will report to the nation about other agents.

acevedo.jpgWith Federal fraud charges hanging over his head, Puerto Rican Governor Anibal Acevedo Vila announced yesterday at a meeting held by his party, the Partido Popular Democratico (PPD), that he was running for reelection. Seems like he has the support of those running the Pava (as his party is popularly called) as well. More than 5,000 delegates ratified a resolution vowing to support him as their candidate despite his legal problems.

prprotest.jpg Yesterday the Puerto Rican Senate was presented with a new proposal to end the five day old crisis, a 5.9 percent sales tax and a new tax on large corporations (which are mostly not Puerto Rican) with earnings in excess of $10 million. This comes as the patience of Puerto Ricans wears thinner as demonstrated by growing marches through the streets of the Puerto Rican capital of San Juan. Eddie Olivera of United Public Servants was quoted by NY1 saying:

We warned the governor or his representative that should this not by solved by Monday, then we are going to step up the activism and continue to go out and denounce the situation wherever we can.
