The media is all over the story that Ecuador and Venezuela are ready to declare war on Colombia. Ecuador and Venezuela have cut diplomatic ties with Colombia and sent troops to their respective borders with the nation run by Alvaro Uribe. Alvaro Uribe can indeed be seen as the cause of the war talk thanks to him allowing (some say officially ordering) his troops into Ecuadorian land to capture and kill FARC leader Raúl Reyes. In the raid laptops were captured, starting a war of documents on laptops as well. Colombia says that documents recovered reveal Hugo Chavez’s support of the FARC in terms of money. Venezuela later displayed the laptop of a slain drug trafficker, which it said contained information implicating Colombia’s national police chief in the cocaine trade.

Citing President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela’s failed FARC hostage release operation, the Colombian government said it will not accept any more international commissions.
As much as I dislike the Uribe government, you really can’t blame them. They are trying to save face and appear in control of a situation that is really out of control. They weren’t able to negotiate any hostage release either, and ruse or not, Venezuela seemed to get farther than Colombia ever had.

The relationship between neighboring countries Venezuela and Colombia has gone from chilly to frigid, as Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez declared today that his government will not have anything to do with Colombia as long as it is lead by president Alvaro Uribe:
“I could not, out of dignity,” Mr Chavez told supporters in the town of Tachira in western Venezuela. The Venezuelan government announced on Tuesday it was withdrawing its ambassador to Colombia.
The feud between neighbours and trading partners began when Mr Uribe stopped Mr Chavez mediating with Colombian rebels.
Beyond the punishment of the cold shoulder, Hugo’s dishing out the same brand of stuff he’s famous for: colorful insults. He’s calling Uribe a “pawn of the empire”, referring to him as a close ally of the U.S.

Colombia’s president Alvaro Uribe has officially pulled the plug on Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s mediation efforts with FARC rebels. Chavez was in the process of brokering the release of 45 hostages, including once Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt, in exchange for the release of 500 imprisoned guerrillas. Apparently, Chavez, never one to play by the rules, went against an order forbidding direct contact with Colombia’s army chief.

No, this is not science fiction. Colombian President Álvaro Uribe may have offered up his people as human guinea pigs to the U.S. government as a way to deal with the immigration “problem”. Telemundo is reporting that the Colombian newspaper El Tiempo claims that in a meeting earlier this year with Republican senators Arlen Specter and Jeff Sessions, Uribe suggested that Colombian migrant workers be implanted with a microchip in order to track them and insure their timely return to their country. The Colombian government is denying that this ever happened, of course, saying that Uribe responded to the Senators’ concerns regarding the timely return of temporary workers by saying:
Well that should be easy for you because thee should be technology to control those things.
