Just when you thought it was safe to go back to school after summer vacation: ex-Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is back and he wants to be your professor. At least that’s what the fine young men and women of Texas Tech have to look forward to this coming school year. According to Amarillo.com, Gonzales will teach the course “Contemporary Issues in the Executive Branch,” and will also help the university recruit Latino students. Um…yeah…
While he may have been heckled at the University of Florida back in 2007, it appears that Albertito is beyond all that now and ready to take on his new post:
“I am long past the time of worrying about criticism,” said Gonzales, 53, in a Tuesday evening telephone interview.“When you are involved in the most controversial issues of the day, you draw some criticism,” he said. “I am excited to be in an environment where ideas are debated. I will open a dialogue for a discussion about the policies of the previous administration.”
Be sure to check out Andrew Cohen’s CourtWatch blog for some cutting commentary on the new “Professor Gonzales”.

So our good friend Alberto Gonzales is back out in the public eye, defending his (bull)shit and irritating the pimple on my ass. Campbell Brown was the latest to tell him to F**k off…I can’t wait until it’s my turn:
Alberto Gonzales: Well, I hope history will reflect the fact that during my tenure both at the White House and at the Department of Justice we did a tremendous job in protecting our country and also as attorney general we focused on protecting our kids from sexual predators, we focused on making our neighborhoods safe from guns and drugs. The level of prosecutions with respect to public corruption far exceeded what the previous administration did and so many people are focused on the little negatives that occurred.Campbell Brown: But …
Gonzales: As soon as mistakes were made. But a lot was accomplished.
Brown: These were not little negatives. And we can go through the list, but let’s talk about — let’s start by talking about how politicized the Justice Department became. An inspector general found that. There is nothing partisan about that. Your office fired nine U.S. attorneys for political reasons. There has been no disagreement about that. I mean, how could you let that happen?
Now that Bush is finally leaving the Oval Office, former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales decided that he wants to set the record straight by writing a book (or maybe he just wants a job).
Alberto Gonzales, who has kept a low profile since resigning as attorney general nearly 16 months ago, said he is writing a book to set the record straight about his controversial tenure as a senior official in the Bush administration.
“I consider myself a casualty, one of the many casualties of the war on terror,” he added.
Problem is, there isn’t even a publisher for the book.
He said he is writing it if only “for my sons, so at least they know the story.”

Former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is like that distant cousin who keep showing up at family parties and embarrassing you because he “represents” you. Today the U.S. Department of Justice released a report saying that Gonzales “mishandled” highly classified documents about an eavesdropping program and interrogating terror detainees.
Oh is that all?
The report says Gonzales failed to store the documents in proper secure facilities and at one point took them home. The report released Tuesday also says he stored them in his briefcase because he did not know the combination to the safe at his house.

Pobrecito. Seems that former U.S. Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales, has been having a rough time finding work ever since he was forced to resign.
He has, through friends, put out inquiries, they said, and has not found any takers. What makes Mr. Gonzales’s case extraordinary is that former attorneys general, the government’s chief lawyer, are typically highly sought.
A longtime loyalist to George W. Bush dating to their years together in Texas, Mr. Gonzales was once widely viewed as a strong candidate to be the first Hispanic-American nominated one day to the Supreme Court. A graduate of Harvard Law School, he carried an impressive personal story as the child of poor Mexican immigrants.
So basically he’s the perfect Latino token for any law firm! The problem is that law firms usually have a problem with liars, especially such public ones (go ahead insert your lawyer joke here- I know you want to).
My local McDonald’s is hiring.

21 Nov 2007The man keeps on keeping the Latino man down. Pobre former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is just trying to earn an honest living speaking about what he knows best.
Actually you have to hand it to the protesters for their creativity. The visual of the “prisoner” in the orange jumpsuit and hood next to Gonzales is priceless and is anyone else missing the irony that Sr. Gonzales is speaking at a series called Accents?

As part of their Hispanic Heritage Month (puke) coverage, Uncovering America, CNN has decided to hold up disgraced former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales as an example. An example of what, I’m not so clear on.
Seems the line for all to say these days is that Hispanic values equal American values but Gonzales takes it a step farther saying:
Over the past 2 ½ years as attorney general, I have seen crimes involving dishonesty, corruption and depravity of types I never thought possible. I’ve seen things I didn’t know man was capable of.

While many are celebrating the resignation of Alberto Gonzales. But believe it or not there are those saddened by his leaving because it will mean no top Latino in the Bush administration. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, having someone who is Latino in a high ranking position isn’t enough, especially if he does nothing for the Latino community and in fact does more harm than good in general. Some have said he let the power get to his head. Others say he just sold out. Liza over at Culture Kitchen has an interesting perspective that reminds me of my own father, who worked in NYC government under Mayor Koch and proudly could have been labeled “the white man’s Latino”, that is palatable to the mainstream (whites)and pushing their agenda.

Better late then never. The New York Times and other news sources are reporting that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has resigned his post. The official announcement is expected later today after (according to Univision news that I have on now) Gonzales and his wife lunch with President Bush. Gonzales, the first Latino to serve as Attorney General, has been haunted by scandal around the firings of 8 U.S. Attorneys and his abysmal record on civil rights. I guess after being caught in his lies he figured his time had come.
Chau bacalao!
