Kumbia King Cruz Martinez and his wife grupera star Alicia Villareal have reported ex friend A.B. Quintanilla to Mexican authorities, citing that they have received threats from Quintanilla.
According to a press release sent to Peopleenespanol.com by the couple, “yesterday (Tuesday)…Quintanilla received an order in which he was notified that must before Public Ministry No. 3 for ‘crimes in general’, result of accusations presented by Mrs. Alicia Villarreal and Mr. Cruz Martínez”. The release also said that they cannot give more details about the legal action “out of discretion” and that for the same reason the couple will not be making statements.
So WHY put out a press release?
It’s been a rough couple of months for A.B., between the ongoing war with Martinez, and the unfortunate video of him at a Mexican airport. I’m personally tired of hearing about his antics, but report on this for all of you who are not.

Spanish pop star David Bisbal — an Operación Triunfo graduate and a major hit in Latin America — says he would love to sing rancheras alongside los grandes de la música mexicana, but is afraid it will be taken as an offense by the Mexican people. I guess with the recent controversies that have caused the Mexican public to bite back, “el chico de los rizos de oro” is a little paranoid:
According to the Almería-born singer who now lives in Miami, he would love to record rancheras, but is convinced that many people would see it disrespectful. No one really understands why.Whatever the reason is, he says it would be a great honor to record this type of music with Mexican artitsts Vicente, Alejandro or Pedro Fernández.
I like how they group Pedro in there as if he were actually part of the family…
I was going to say that the Mexican people had no problem with Rocío Dúrcal singing rancheras, but then again, Bisbal ain’t no Rocío Dúrcal.

La Mala posted last week about A.B. Quintanilla‘s “Mexican problem”, and the issue snowballed, leading Mexico’s ANDA organization (Asociación Nacional de Actores de México) to demand that A.B. apologize. According to People en Español, he’s doing just that:
“All of Mexico, forgive me, I am not a racist. That sentiment exists only in the U.S. and towards our countrymen when they are denied rights and when they are killed on the border, that is racism,” he said before more than 50 media outlets. “If I have to go door to door to Mexican homes asking for forgiveness, I’ll do it…the important thing is that Mexico listen to me and that it knows that it wasn’t my intention to offend anyone with what is seen on that video.”
He’s sounding a bit like Tiziano Ferro. I wonder if he’ll be saying sorry to anyone for using the “N” word.

The former head of the Kumbia Kings and brother of dearly departed Tejana leyenda Selena, A.B. Quintanilla is all over the Spanish language media today after a video surfaced yesterday showing A.B. talking about “f**king Mexicans”. A.B. also liberally uses the N word in the video shot in a Mexican airport. A.B. said he was merely expressing anger at being told to get up off the floor by airport authorities. All day today, Spanish language media has been showing Mexican fans burning and ripping up pictures of A.B.

The war of words going on between ex Kumbia King and group founder A.B. Quintanilla and his ex-friend Cruz Martinez is heating up. Not long ago, A.B. revealed to the world why he chose to leave the group and pointed out that the split was not amicable; apparently he was leaving because he was duped out of 1 million dollars by Cruz, and because grupera star Alicia Villareal, Cruz’s wife, had registered the name of Kumbia Kings under her own name in Mexico.
Now, according to People en Español, Cruz is firing back, and it ain’t pretty:
Martínez is angered by the accusation of the missing 1 million dollars, and says that he’ll make things clear “very soon” with documentation that will leave “everyone in shock”. Finally, the musician lamented the decline of his relationship with Quintanilla. “For me, a true friendship never ends. Para mí una amistad verdadera a. This shows me that this never was a true friendship.”
On the Cristina show, AB stated: “He’s not my friend anymore, and for me is just like anyone else that’s tried to hurt my family.” He also said that his friendship Cruz changed as a result of Martinez’s relationship with Alicia. A Yoko Ono regionmontana!
