My 11 year old's school had their own presidential election. Barack Obama won by a landslide 674 to 147. My hija reports that kids were high-fiving each other.

I believe in the sanctity and privacy of the vote which is why while these kids mouthing McCain makes me shiver in fear a bit, the message is right on. See you at the voting booth!!!

Miercoles Morning Musica : Eva Ayllón

Eva Ayllón who has been called the Queen of Afro-Peruvian soul and the Tina Turner of Afro-Peruvian music, will be on a mini tour starting next week. Stops on the tour include Miami, Boston, New York, and Chicago.

The two-time Latin Grammy nominee, who has made millions of fans around the world over a 30-year career, makes her debut in Miami on Saturday, November 1 at the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall at Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, followed by concerts at Berklee Performance Center in Boston, Carnegie Hall in New York City, and the House of Blues in Chicago.

She will debut songs from her upcoming 2009 CD, Quimba, Fa, Malambo, Ñeque to be released on Times Square Records.

Daddy Yankee isn't finished horrifying Ricans and Latinos in general.
Thankfully next month he steps away from politics and into the realm of the fluffy again when he launches a cologne. For $39 (small bottle) and $49 (big bottle) you can smell like a strange pesto spilled on your shows it seems as the main aromas in the scent include apple peel, ginger, cedar leaves, sage, basil, amber, and suede. Mmmm sexy.

To counter Daddy Yankee's move to the right with McCain, Fat Joe publicly is lending his support to Barack Obama right from his head down to his toes.

And while we can debate the commodification of political figures on shoes and other gear, I wanna shift into the commodification of politics and politics show.

Colombiana Shakira has announced her endorsement of Barack Obama for U.S. president. Now Shakira can't vote pero how much you wanna bet she'll do an Obama song (ay and I hope in Spanish). “I am honored to receive the endorsement of such a talented and generous individual who has achieved worldwide acclaim, and whose commitment to social justice has made such a difference,” Senator Obama said.

“Shakira is a role model for young Latinas in the U.S., and throughout our entire hemisphere, and I am humbled that she recognizes the type of change we need in our country and around the world.”
“I support Barack Obama because I think that he is the person that can bring the world the true American message,” Shakira said. “I feel in my heart that he would be able to reconstruct peace and confidence in the United States.”

Shakira added that: “I’d like to invite the Latino community to come out and make themselves present during this election because they can really make a difference. (ESPECIALLY THE NON-VOTERS!!!!) I care deeply about this country and I think everyone does because America’s economy is so crucial for the rest of the world.
