image_previewAs you read this I’m on an Amtrak train with one child in tow, headed to D.C. for the Reform Immigration for America Summit. Mil gracias to the people at the Center for Community Change, I will attending the largest convening of pro-immigrant organizers and allies this year.

I’m really excited to meet some organizers, activists and advocacy peeps that I have thus far only known through the internet and hopefully have some real discussions as to what needs to happen with the current immigration system in the U.S.

Last week my appearance on Yo Soy Latino show on 810 AM WEUS in Florida was mad short due to technical issues that can happen. Pero, host Jose Miranda was gracious enough to invite me back. That means that mañana, from 12-1 pm EST you can tune in (for non-Orlando area peeps you can listen online) and hear me discuss independent media, blogging, immigration, mami’hood, poetry and organizing and the ways all these intersect.

Jose also wanted me specifically to direct our readers’ attention to the health situation of a 14 year old Latina, Bridget Ayala Torres, who needs the community’s help.

There is a young 14 year old girl by the name of Bridget Ayala Torres, lying in Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. She is fighting for her life and she needs our help. She has been told she has less then 3 months to live. Bridget needs to find a compatible bone marrow donor out there somewhere; but more importantly, she needs help with funds to make that fight for her life. Just ask yourself how far would you go to save a loved one, your parents, your brother/sisters, or your child? This child needs us. There will be upcoming events planned for her in Orlando and in Miami stay tuned for dates and times. For more information you can also contact Bridget’s

Just a little shameless plug. Tonite I am going to be speaking on the Powerful Latinas interview series about the development of my political consciousness, and how my creation of my media outlets are connected with my politics.

I’m really excited and hope you can listen in!

From the VivirLatino WTF Files

vlLate last night I was reading through some of the site’s stats and I always like to see how people get to our site including keywords.

Now I’m used to the keyword analysis stats that show that many people stumble upon our site while looking for Latino themed porn and are bummed that all the searches for tetas are about me breastfeeding or breast cancer.

Pero last night’s keywords have me saying wtf.

For example: “Why do mexicans do their children’s hair so ugly?”

Huh? And that person came to VL not once pero twice.

and

“What did the latins still from the black man?”

I think it’s steal pero really? That would explain some of our comments.

VL has been stuck on dead in terms of posts for the past 2 days due to a problem with our new server. You guys have been able to access the site, but not read any new content, and for this we apologize. Thanks for hanging in there with us as we work out these annoying kinks…we know how disappointing it is to not find fresh posts, but we are here working behind the scenes to make things better for you.

Muchas gracias!

Martes Movie and We’ll be back

Has anyone seen this movie?

This will likely be our last post on our old server host as we finally move to a spot that will hopefully be more secure for us and more stable for you. We are grateful for your love and support and will return back online shortly.

In the meantime you can continue to follow us on Twitter where we will continue to send updates.

000_0013.jpgLast week I wrote about the HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition that HP had sent for me to play with.

Originally, I had gifts to give away for Valentine’s day, pero since we were under a not so loving attack that took us offline, let’s just call this VivirLatino’s post-Valentine’s Day/Fashion Week Giveaway.

This week in NYC is Fashion Week, and I will be at the Vivienne Tam boutique tomorrow for a fashion show. Since I can’t bring all of you with me (although it looks like I’ll be able to live blog the event), we are giving away 3 HP wireless optical mice with the Vivienne Tam peony design.

It’s ready to use, with a micro USB receiver, and batteries. Apparently you can’t even get these in the U.S. Pero, sorry Apple heads (this even applies to me), the mouse only works with Windows.

The first three comments with email addresses will win.

Thanks for Staying With Us!

VL.jpgThis last attack took us out for a few tear filled days. Yes, we cried. Pero we are back online, will be posting updates, and are moving to a brand spanking new server space and even will be tweaking the template a little.

Oh we missed you and are happy to be back.
