From Bianca Laureano there comes the news that the Catholic church and the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health actually collaborated on a pro-condom, pro-choice, pro-Catholic ad! ::falls over dead:: Here it is:

Great job to all concerned, and thank you, Catholic Church, for finally centering the needs of the people!

microchip.jpgI say it was only a matter of time before a class of those monitored because of their “dangerousness” happen. Not surprisingly this dangerousness has been linked to sex.

Indonesia’s Papua province is set to pass a bylaw that requires some HIV/AIDS patients to be implanted with microchips in a bid to prevent them infecting others, a lawmaker said on Saturday.
Under the bylaw, which has caused uproar among human rights activists, patients who had shown “actively sexual behavior” could be implanted with a microchip to monitor their activity, lawmaker John Manangsang said…

If a patient with HIV/AIDS was found to have infected a healthy person, there would be a penalty, he said without elaborating.

Who does this really protect?

When You’re a Stripper in Santiago…

8:58 am By Maegan La Mala · Chile|Controversia|sex|society · Comments Off

14 Jul 2008

…don’t try working it on the poles of the city’s metro, or you’ll get carted away:

Chilean stripper Monserrat Morilles wanted to draw attention to what she called the “conservatism” of Chilean society in a special way — by showing subway riders how she earns her keep. Apparently authorities weren’t amused, as evidenced by the above video, which shows Ms. Morilles (a.k.a. “La Diosa del Metro”) being taken away in a paddywagon.

Regardless, it looks like Montse got her point across!

Is Ronaldo Being Extorted By Brazilian Sex Workers?

12:35 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Celebrities|Controversia|GLBT|Media|sex|Sports · Comments Off

30 Apr 2008

_44612338_ronaldo_afp226b.jpgSeems famous people paying for sex is the media story of the moment, with the men involved being made the center of the story and the women/sex workers involved being pushed further into the margins at best, demonized at worst. The latest is futbol player Ronaldo being the latest, claiming that three transwomen are extorting him.

The 2002 World Cup winner picked up three prostitutes.
When they all booked into a motel, the AC Milan striker discovered that the prostitutes were in fact men.
According to Rio police, he alleges that the transvestites then tried to extort money from him.

2008_03_10t150956_316x450_us_newyork_spitzer.jpg…And that according to many, is reason enough for him to resign. Seems that the man who allegedly was all about ant-corruption was well corrupted at the low low price of $1,000-an-hour . Spitzer was caught, via FBI wiretap, arranging to meet with a prostitute in Washington last month. In the tapes he is identified as client #9 aka George Fox client of the Emperor’s Club. Now that’s taking leading the Empire State a little too far.

Sexual Revolution in Argentina?

12:47 pm By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Argentina|sex|Women · Comments Off

9 Jan 2008

argentina1.jpgWith Argentina electing a female president for the first time, one would like to think that women are seen and seeing themselves as more than just sex objects or arm candy for futbol players (have you watched an Argentine soccer game on Argentine tv?).

Adrian Sapetti, head of the Argentine Society of Human Sexuality, says the feminine assertiveness began 30 years ago with the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, a group of mothers of political dissidents who for three decades protested the disappearance of their children during the military dictatorship of 1976 to 1983.

Book Review : Body Drama

10:31 am By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Books|children|Family|Health|sex|Women · Comments Off

Body%2520Drama.jpgMujeres: if your new year’s resolution is to love your body more then come closer. When I was going through puberty, I learned everything I needed to learn about my body from two sources: porn I found in my dad’s drawers and a copy of Our Body, Ourselves stolen from my mom. Let’s be real, most of our mamis didn’t talk to us properly about our bodies and the changes we were going through. Well we’re not our mamis. We tend to be more open with our children but that doesn’t mean that we don’t need a little help. Enter the book Body Drama: Real Girls, Real Bodies, Real Issues, Real Answers by Nancy Redd.

This book is not for the faint, especially those not used to seeing real women and their bodies. And I say bodies I mean every part of our bodies: cellulite, piercings, tats, bellies, rollos, tetas, culos, and vaginas. Yes, vaginas.

Sex for sale…for a good cause

4:35 pm By Maegan La Mala · Chile|sex · Comments Off

29 Nov 2007

genImage.jpgChile’s most publicized television event, Don Francisco’s yearly “Teletón” in support of disabled children — normally a snoozefest — just got hot:

A Chilean prostitute has auctioned 27 hours of sex to raise money for the country’s largest charity during an annual fund-raising campaign.

Maria Carolina became an overnight celebrity in the conservative Roman Catholic country, making news headlines and appearing on talk shows since she made her unusual donation to the televised charity event, which runs for 27 hours starting on Friday evening.

“I’ve already auctioned off the 27 hours of love,” Maria Carolina told Reuters on Wednesday, saying she had raised about $4,000. “One of my clients already paid. It seemed like a good deed to him.”

Porn pizza for Canadians

7:53 am By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Marketing|sex|Women|World · Comments Off

12 Jul 2007

pornpizza.jpgWhile air travel might be a hard enough sell that half naked flight attendants sound like a good idea to marketers, I didn’t think pizza needed help. In Canada, savvy businesspeople know that sex sells, and are using it to sell their pizzas:

Pizza sellers in Western Canada have decided to buy into the saying “sex sells”: they are delivery pornographic photos with their products. Porno Pizza, which opened last week in Winnipeg, has had great success with their idea of covering the bottoms of their pizza boxes with pornographic images.

“They range from photos with an artistic bent like Playboy magazine to photos that are much more hardcore,” says Corey Wildeman, owner of the establishment, who says that the photos become visible as you eat the pizza.

Pizza porn might be the next big thing in Canada, but could it spread to the U.S.? With pizza names like “Hawaii Five ‘ho’” and others that I’m too embarrassed to repeat, this gimmick just might appeal to American consumers starved for pizza and for sex.

Ecuadorian air travelers get an eyefull

11:35 am By Jennifer Woodard Maderazo · Ecuador|Latin America|Marketing|sex|Women · Comments Off

27 Jun 2007

Flights can be tedious, and some of us are thankful for in-flight movies and the solace of our iPods to while away the hours. But passengers on Ecuador’s Ícaro Airlines get a bit more than that, as the company has provided a group of scantily clad women who romp about the plane for the entertainment of the passengers. The video below will tell you all you need to know:

It seems objectification is a viable marketing tactic in Ecuador. But I guess this is no worse than the Hooters jet, though no mainstream airline here would dare this. Although Ícaro says it doesn’t rule out the possibility of having male models on its flights as well.
