princess Bianca over at Latino Sexuality reminds us that May is Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month.

While I was already out of high school when I became pregnant with my first child, I was still a teen, and becoming pregnant as a teen isn’t the best thing in the world (pero it also isn’t the worst either, I want to be clear on that). It changed my life in some positive ways pero also in some negative ways and I wouldn’t recommend it.

So how do we teach the young mujeres in our comunidad to take care of themselves, while allowing them the space to feel positive about their sexuality?

Craigslist suspect arrested

We told you yesterday about the murderer who seemed to be targeting women through Craigslist. The latest breaking news is that a suspect has been arrested:

The fiance of the suspect has come to his defense, but I can’t help but think she sounds like an incredibly naive person:

Philip Markoff, arrested Monday after an intensive police investigation, “could not hurt a fly,” his future wife Megan McAllister wrote in an e-mail to ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

“Philip is an intelligent man who is just trying to live his life so if you could leave us alone we would greatly appreciate it,” she wrote Tuesday.

“We expect to marry in August and share a wonderful, meaningful life together.”

Famous last words, no?

I hope for her sake that this is all a big mistake–but this is not the first time a clean cut “intelligent” man turns out to be a violent anti-woman jackass.

marriott_murder Many women (and men) offer personal services (ranging from sex work to massages to house cleaning) over Craigslist. It’s a dangerous thing to do, especially for sex workers. Just as recently as a few months ago a young woman in my area got beat up and raped very badly by a university professor, and officers *arrested her* (instead of the rapist) when she went to report the rape because she was illegally prostituting herself.

Well, it looks like things are taking an even more dangerous turn for sex workers. The latest:

Boston police are investigating a shooting death inside a luxury hotel in the city.

Commissioner Ed Davis said that the 26-year-old victim from New York City was offering massage services through Craigslist.

Police believe that she may have been involved with prostitution and that there was an attempted robbery.

The victim, whose name was not released, was found around 10 p.m. Tuesday. A security guard found the woman bound and shot multiple times in the chest in the hallway on the 20th floor of the Marriott Copley Plaza at 110 Huntington Avenue.

She was taken to Boston Medical Center where she later died.

This horrible murder may be connected to a previous robbery of another sex worker. The police just released survelliance video (pictured), and are asking for you to contact them if you have any leads at all.

If you are selling services over Craigslist, please take care of yourself and be extra cautious until things are figured out.

Amazon Fail : Amazon Shows its Homophobic, Anti-Sex Side

amazon-sucks After a full day of Easter activities yesterday, I came home to find that Amazon was hard at work, disappearing sales rankings from “adult” books. Amazon seems to have ~~interesting~~ fucked up way of deciding what is “adult” though, especially since the deleting of sales ranking and the blocking of the books from appearing in some searches, and appearing on some best-seller lists seems to target books dealing with gay, lesbian and trans themes, and no not all of them are even “dirty”. Take for example the following from Meta Writer who seems as of last night had compiled a list of the books affected :

No protagonist, but intended for LGBT college-bound students.

Here are some other books impacted: “Heather Has Two Mommies”, A Biography of Ellen Degeneres,

Oh just to show that they are equal opportunity haters and that Amazon doesn’t think disabled peeps should be getting down: “The Ultimate Guide to Sex And Disability” has been stripped of its sales ranking.

No se, some of it seems random and not unified pero it still feels dangerous especially since Playboy books and a book about porno guy Ron Jeremy still have their sales ranks up as do hateful books like “A Parent’s Guide to Preventing Homosexuality”. Certain glbt films/dvds still have sales rankings.

Amazon is saying that the stripping of sales ranking, which impacts searchability and therefore accessibility is a “glitch”, one that has been going on since at least February according to some. More likely is that this is a result of some organized “pro-family” orgs who have been complaining to Amazon via flagging certain titles.

Suavemente: Elvis Crespo Touches Himself, is Interrogated by FBI

The headline says it all, and it really can’t get much better than this, folks. AP reports on the “little” incident:

Merengue star Elvis Crespo is being investigated after a woman said she saw him masturbating on an airplane en route from Houston to Miami.

According to a Miami-Dade County police report, the Grammy winner was doing it in view of other passengers on a flight last week. That prompted the plane’s captain to radio Miami International Airport.

Officers interviewed the Puerto Rican singer upon his arrival but did not arrest him. No charges have been filed, but an investigation continues.

When asked by police about the incident, Crespo said: “I don’t recall doing that.”

His publicist did not immediately return a message left Wednesday by The Associated Press.

You can’t blame Elvis. Pobrecito can’t get press to save his life, so he had no other choice than to resort to touching himself on a plane. And getting interrogated by the FBI? Priceless.

This new viral video ad from Durex condoms leaves me wondering: is this safe or not safe for work? If your boss comes by and sees you watching videos of condom balloon bunnies, don’t say I didn’t warn you…kind of.

Something tells me this ad will be relegated to the Internet and will never see the light of day on TV. At least not in the U.S.
