As a food obsessed blogger, I was delighted to see that a food blog I frequent, Taco Journalism out of Austin, was featured in this great video from The Austin American Statesman.

At Taco Journalism, taco freak Mando Rayo takes you on a culinary tour of taquerías great and small, dazzling and disappointing. If you like tacos and like blogs, then I think you might love Taco Journalism. Pay Nando a little visit here.

Don’t let the last post fool you. The pushback against the anti-Sotomayor messages and anti-Latino messages in general are coming strong from organizations in the form of websites, videos and kick ass images.

Take for example the art coming from Presente.org, seen here. Presente! also has a petition at their site urging the Senate Judiciary Committee to Confirm Judge Sotomayor.

Speaking of petitions, The National Council of la Raza, has set up a site along with a petition directed at Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele, House Minority Leader John Boehner, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, to stop the racist/sexist speech against Sotomayor and Latinos overall.

Andrés Duque from Blabbeando has some great video and pictures from two very different rallies that took place this past Sunday here in NYC. Both rallies dealt with the lives of GLBT people and both had Latinos speaking on the issues.

First here’s Ugly Betty‘s Ana Ortiz (no relation), speaking at a rally organized by Broadway Impact and co-sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign, the Empire State Pride Agenda, Marriage Equality New York, the Civil Rights Front and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS

This post comes to you courtesy of Nezua of The Unapologetic Mexican.

There’s new Latino organizing effort underway that seeks to further the political power of our communal voices, energies, strengths, and talents.

As we approach May 1st thousands of people across the country will take to streets to express their collective desire for human rights for all immigrants. Pero just as there are multiple Latino experiences, there are multiple ways to organize.

Nezua writes:

OVER AND OVER we hear about The Hispanic Vote™ and The Latino/a Vote® and it is a real thing we are talking about in all of this. Our people—nuestra gente—have long been a force in this land, be it under the golden sun harvesting the corn that has for thousands of years fed our antepasados (ancestors) or away from the sun and working hard in US places of business or doing so much to build strong familias together, as las mujeres—the women—among us are known for historically. We are a beautiful and long enduring people, and responsible for so much creation here that sustains us today: Art, Literature, Food, Clothing, Song.

And yet, our voices have yet to be utilized and enjoined in a way that can efficiently organize around the issues that affect our communities. Don’t mistake what I say: the Latina/o (or “Hispanic”) community is famous for its ability to organize on the local level, and we are proud of this. And that is why it is time to continue to tie this ability and history together and bring it to an even higher level.

It’s true that while so much joins us, we do come from many different backgrounds and hold varying views on the issues that affect us. We will not always agree, nor should we. What we can agree on, though, is that we should have a way to centralize and engage the politics that affect us on so many levels.

Are you down? Read mas.

Mala is a little stressed out and seeking calm from the internet isn’t really helping.

I mean, mira, scary socialist Chavez is taking over everything, including highways, ports and airports.

It’s not like the U.S. to interfere in the elections of Latin American countries like El Salvador, right?

We could all just unwind in Mexico.

If we wanna a wax we’d have to skip Jersey.

We can’t even wash our kids anymore

Pero thankfully when all else fails, we have Jon Stewart.

I’ve been way off my game this week and am trying to come back. Mientras tanto, peep what I’m reading/watching this lovely domingo morning:

Shock! Fidel Castro criticizes Obama. Guess he’s not dead yet.

Miley Cyrus may have been nominated for a Kid’s Choice Award, pero she’s still racist.

And, amigo Nezua reminds us of how the land of the free applies to a very specific group of people, not including locked up immigrants.

Feliz Sunday. It’s beautiful out, at least here in NYC it is, so get outside into the sun. She’s missed you.
