Loretta Sanchez called me a “girl” when I asked her about the Mississippi ICE raids that have led to the arrest of 350 people.

From Citizen Orange:

Numerous agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement descended on a factory belonging to Howard Industries Inc., which manufactures electrical transformers, among other products.

As of late Monday afternoon, no criminal charges had been filed, said Barbara Gonzalez, an agency spokeswoman, but she said that dozens of workers had been “identified, fingerprinted, interviewed, photographed and processed for removal from the U.S.”

My Man Teddy

Don’t we all love Teddy Kennedy? But I want to start off by asking another question.

Why the hell did Caroline Kennedy get a standing ovation when she came out to speak? I know she revolutionized the Democratic Party in the 60’s, wait that was her Dad.

Caroline doesn’t deserve such admiration. Back to the point, Ted has lived a live of accomplishments that can not be compared to any other politician (though Nancy Pelosi likes to think she can). He has revolutionized the power the Senate holds and he has flourished into the best politician in the Kennedy family tree. No matter what obstacle is thrown his way (George Bush) he can tackle it face on and recently that was seen with his cancer. When I watched the beautiful video tribute before his speech I began to cry. The fact that he came to Denver when it was advised of him not to because of his health really states what kind of man he is. His speech was eloquent and passionate with the right amount of force. He stole the night away…yes that include you Michelle Obama.

No, I’m not talking about America Ferrera I’m talking about the great Senator of New York Hillary Clinton. Yesterday, she surprised DNC Hispanic Caucus goers and gave a heart felt speech filled with commitment for the issues that matter the most for Hispanics. She spoke about comprehensive immigration reform and a stronger education system. She spoke to the heart to us, she said “I knows there maybe language Barriers but it doesn’t matter we are all American and we are all strong and we all deserve a system that works and Barack Obama and Joe Biden are going to bring that to all of us.”

She lastly addressed the cynical and GOP bigwig John McCain. She addressed the manipulative ad that his campaign started airing that included clips of her attacks on Obama.

Even though I agree with those critiques (because they are true) the GOP is making me sick with their same old tactic. The GOP should try to refresh their strategies to win an election besides frying your opponent to a crisp with vindictive ads. Hillary responded by saying “I’m Hillary Clinton, and I do not approve that message.” I think that explains why Americans should love Hillary.

DNCC_logo_dnc2008_1_500.jpgI missed Hillary Clinton speaking at the Hispanic DNC Caucus because I was dealing with the nightmare that was the picking up of credentials. But our student correspondent, Estevan, was there so he’ll be blogging his thoughts later.

I did arrive in time to see Howard Dean, who focused on the need to register Latinos and get them to vote. He also spoke of how the Republicans scapegoat Latinos and how McCain flip-flopped on his own immigration reform plan.

DNCC_logo_dnc2008_1_500.jpgAfter a long ass and insane trip in that included McCain fans in LaGuardia Airport, avoiding tornadoes while sitting in the narrowest airline seats ever next to a scientist who built a telescope in the South Pole (Hi Jeff!), to a stupid shuttle, I mean super shitty shuttle that took me three hours from when I landed in Denver to get me to my hotel, to almost not having a room to sleep in because of massive credit card machine failure. After all that VivirLatino esta presente at the Democratic National Convention!
