Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill Reintroduced Today?

In my inbox this morning I received an email stating that Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Patrick Leahy (D-VT) are holding a press conference at 2 pm EST to announce the reintroduction of a Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill.

I have not read/seen the text of the bill that is set to be reintroduced but based on the press release it doesn’t seem like what is being proposed is a change from anything that has ever been put forward. It seems to place border security first, learning English, passing a background check, paying taxes (as if immigrants don’t already), and standing on some non-existent line as priorities.

Is this supposed to be the proof Democrats are serious about immigration?

It’s proof that they think we might stay home in 2012.

Parece que no es nada nuevo Sabina – a ver si encuentro el bill actual.

If Obama really thought we were going to stay home, Karen, he would get on that executive order stuff.

Obama has a billion dollar warchest and his gang will be using some of that money in a concerted campaign to vigorously attack, and spread rumors about opponents and critics.

I agree with Meagen. If the Obama gang really thought Latinos will stay home for election 2012 you could bet on it they would have their “fuse center” operatives all over these blogs shilling for Obama by making more excuses, lies and lame rationales for his re-election.They will do this because in their hearts they truly believe Latinos are basically a childish, stupid and ignorant people incapable of higher level thinking and organization..therefore easily deceived, co-opted and controlled..

More then likely the Obama campaign thinks Latinos are already on the plantation and no significant resources need be dedicated to winning the brown sheeeple over.

They think all they need to do is crack the whip, eat some tacos, sing a few bars of some Latin folksong, drink a shot of tequila, jabber a few broken words in Spanish, and they’ll come running back to the plantation..

It’s a sorry state of affairs politically speaking for Latinos.Unless there is a breakthrough in raising Latino political consciousness they will continue to be used, lied to and exploited for their votes.

The US economy is collapsing and Latinos are unfortunately sinking even deeper,in greater numbers, down to the bottom of american society, where some day in the not so distant future they will make up the majority of a permanent fixed “underclass” in a new type of american caste system..a people to be exploited and manipulated by politicians and governments and their Latino enabler class..

That is why is so incredibly urgent for Latinos to be proactive,to become active, get involved, become outspoken critics of the government..etc etc..

Because if this does not happen you might as well just kiss goodbye to Latinos as a people,of their ever progressing in society and just look out for yourself in a basic survival mode..

Let’s see if this time they are really doing something about it. But the real issues are our own latino organizations like.LULAC, that are not getting the massage about what is needed for those immigrants that have been here for 20 or more years . Last time congress was even closed to pass something for people that had more than 10 years here what happened our organizations did not agreed because they wanted something that could legalized even the one that cross the border the night before and what happened but Congress did not pass anything for nobody and those few people that could have legalize there status didn’t thanks to Latino organization.but I still have faith something will happen soon for the sake of this country n many people.

Good morning isreal and thanks for commenting. I have some more details about the bill. Honestly I don’t think there will be the “perfect” bill so it’s going to be hard but this one is far from perfect. A ver

@Chicanofuturetense You wrote: “therefore easily deceived, co-opted and controlled…”

Your quote is quite accurate, except that in my experience, it is universal. The effects of that, of course, are much more severe for Latino communities.

I’ve often been curious about the bizzare sense of entitlement exhibited by illegal aliens. It amuses me when people of the world demonstrate the notion that the legal citizens of the U.S.A. owe them a living.

Perhaps people should be rewarded for willfully violating laws.

Hola Jennifer. I don’t know where in the bill it talks about owing the undocumented a living. Could you perhaps point that out?

I’m amused when people ignore tha fact that they are benefitting from immigrant labor every day. Unless of course you don’t eat fruits or vegetables, wear clothes, set foot in buildings, etc.
