Conservatives Need to Make Up Their Minds Regarding Our Wombs

Gracias to Andres, my ‘hood vecino of Blabbeando, for tweeting last night information about the latest assault on Latinidad using the wombs of some Latin@s (not all Latinas have wombs not all wombs belong to women). Following in the footsteps of ads targeting African-American and black communities that claimed that abortion access amounted to eugenics, now the Latino Partnership for Conservative Values is getting in on the game, sponsoring a billboard with the above image saying “The Most Dangerous Place for a Latino is in the womb.” in English and Spanish.

The ads, which allegedly are slated to go up around Los Angeles, are part of a wider anti-access campaign claiming that Latin@s get more abortions than others and that this is the big problem because it seeks to erase us On the Board of the org behind the ads are novela actors Eduardo Verastegui and Karyme Lozano, as well as Puerto Rico’s governor Luis Fortuño.

The eugenicist movement against Latin@s and all POC is nothing news and yes, the role that the founding of some reproductive rights organizations historically have played needs to be acknowledged but I have a feeling that is not really the point here.

I have a feeling the point is to continue the attack on comprehensive reproductive access for Latin@s in an ass-backward kind of way that displays contradictions within the conservative movement, who – like the Dems- want to have it both ways : attack our communities while asking for our vote.

For example, this “Latino Partnership” has among it’s major goals to :

5. Encouraging increased support and advocacy among conservatives for comprehensive immigration reform.

How then do they reconcile their conservative “pro-life” values with the conservative message that Latin@s have weapon of mass destruction wombs dropping anchor babies on the U.S.?

Actors like Verastegui, have a long history of being anti-Obama and using the wombs and unborn of his “community” as his rallying cry, maybe to distract from his astounding creative career.

If you wonder ho much Puerto Rican Governor Fortuño cares about our bodies, look at how well his police force has treated them.

I am also confused with the way reports and statistics are being selectively used. The conservatives have no problem latching onto a report supported by the Guttmacher institute supporting claims that Latin@s are accessing abortions more than others. I am curious to see if the conservative Latinos will also cite another Guttmacher supported reportclaiming that unplanned pregnancies in the U.S. are a financial drain to the tune of $11 billion?

Or is the issue not really the issue(s) and just another example of the political machinery turning and using our identities and bodies in an effort to get money and votes?

The womb is the most dangerous for a latino and blacks…40 million latino babies have be killed since the 70′s and 51 million black babies. And you still support this atroscity on minorities as some kind of choice thing…Abortion was something that was suppose to be used to save the women from dangerous Ill effects of pregnancy (Her health), but it’s been used to murder the innocent.
