Started this morning with the frightening images of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Our prayers go out to all impacted.
Posting has been light this week, as mami’hood has been heavy as has been work on projects for events to come. I am ever appreciative of the support from VivirLatino readers.
In case you are interested, here is what Mala has been cooking up in her head, heart and soul :
I am thrilled and excited as can be to be participating in el Museo del Barrio’s Super Sabado FREE day, March 19th, on Art & Activism. I am the official storyteller for the day, leading two interactive storytelling segments, one at noon and another at 2, called COLORIN COLORADO in el Museo’s cafe. I promise this will be more than fairy tales and yes bring your children! This activity will be trilingual : English, Spanish, Spanglish.
I have also been hard at collaborative work with m/other/healer TK Tunchez and Community Caregiver Rachel Caballero on our workshop for the CLPP Conference in Amherst, April 8-10th. Our workshop is on Friday, April 8th.
Here’s what we will be sharing : We Are Our Sisters Keepers: m/others, mamis and community caregivers of color re/claiming our healing powers on the front lines of colonialism.
In order to counter-act colonialism mamis, m/others and community caregivers around the nation (and world) are grounding themselves in movements that center self-care. As radical mujeres of color, we recognize the need for self-determined self-care, creativity and spirituality to be central to our movement building processes. We believe that personal transformation is central to creating collective transformation, and are working together to create systems of support with each other!
Join us as we create an interactive intentional healing space, where we will discuss/create/inspire and support each other as we explore and identify our own unique skills, voices and possibilities! If possible, please bring an offering to share. Collage materials will be available to create your unique vision on-site.
Though this is not closed, this workshop centers the voices of self-identified m/others and community caregivers of color.
We are working with each other to build networks of support that allow us to bring our whole selves, as radical caregivers and individuals. During this workshop, we invite you to share in an interactive process where we will share some of the skills and resources that we use to create media, movements and ph/families that support us as queer, single, teen, welfare mamaz & community caregivers. We invite you to share your skills with us! We know we have everything we need to heal ourselves. We want to support each other as we explore and identify own unique skills, voices and possibilities to build stronger networks that are grounded in reclamation & resilience!
So yeah mad busy but trying my best to get back in the regular posting groove. Plus we are going to have some good book reviews and regalitos soon.
Love in Justice
M
